Shelby Ranch is located at 753 Durham Road in Scotsburn, Nova Scotia. We are a Western riding facility that offers a variety of services for beginner to intermediate riders from ages 2 to senior. Ride one of our safe, patient horses in our indoor arena or explore beautiful forest trails. Send us a message to book a private or small-group riding lesson or trail ride, available 7 days a week. 🦚 Phillip the Peacock had lots to say today!

A peacocks honk can travel 1-3km. On a quiet ranch day, it’s very possible for neighbors well beyond our property to hear Phillip giving his commentary 😅
Peacocks can hit 90–100 decibels up close that’s about as loud as a motorcycle.

If Phillip’s talking… a LOT of people know about it. 🦚📣

Shelby Ranch Horsemanship Bootcamp, a high-energy, skill-building experience designed for kids who want more than just riding.

Each camper receives their very own Ranch Rider Passport and will work through challenge badges all week long. From groundwork to riding skills, campers will earn stamps as they master each task and at the end of camp, every rider who completes the challenges is awarded a completion ribbon 🏅 to celebrate everything they’ve accomplished!

Throwback Thursday - A Full-Circle Moment

Let’s start the new year off with a little Throwback Thursday 🐎

Shelby’s lifelong passion has always been horses, and sharing that passion with others. Pictured here is Fancy, a very special mare who was born on Shelby’s aunt Sue’s farm. In Fancy’s younger years, she was a bit of a spitfire 🔥 so as a child, Shelby grew up competing on Fancy’s father, Red.

This photo captures a little girl with big dreams, looking into the eyes of a horse she aspired to ride. A horse that, years later, would help her accomplish those very dreams.

When Shelby’s passion eventually led her into business, sharing the love of horses with others, Fancy came full circle. She became one of the very first horses to help teach children and adults how to ride, playing a huge role in the beginning years of what would become Shelby Ranch.

After years of patiently caring for riders, Fancy returned to the farm where she was born to be laid to rest in her late 20s.

Some horses don’t just shape a program, they shape a person.

Thank you, Fancy, for being part of the journey. 🐴
