Hey all you dog owners that have extra friendly dogs that like to try to make friends with skunks! Make sure you have an emergency skunk kit in the house, because most times an incedent happens right before bed!
Here’s what you need to have on hand:
Baking soda
Dawn dish soap
Hydronized peroxide
Here’s the trick, BEFORE you wash your dog, apply baking soda on the area he/she got sprayed and let the soda absorb the oil. Then with a shop vac blow off the powder. Skunk oil is made to become more potent when water is added. It also penetrates the coat and skin. You may need to get a new collar, too. Wash your dog with equal parts of this solution mixed with water avoiding the eyes. Make sure you condition the coat after(with dog conditioner) to rebalance the ph in the fur. Check your yard before you let your dogs out!
