This post is regards to giving your pup a relaxant prior to grooming.
This is not a post on debate but my personal opinion from many years of experience. I would ask that you refrain from giving the medication 💊 until I have had a chance to get to know your dog . I can’t help fix a problem if it is always masked . If you feel that your dog must have a drug then most likely I am not the groomer for you . So many young groomers have taken the “Fear Free course” yet more and more dogs are sedated . Your dog needs at least 3-4 visits with the same groomer ( un drugged ) to start to relax and form a relationship with their groomer, the shop needs to be quiet and no chaos, If you have a larger dog and feel the drug is needed then you’ll need to stay to monitor your dog ,
Yes It has been said to me many times , “I’d like to see you do my dog “ and that is ok , then I am not your groomer .

Paradoxical Reactions
In some cases, a dog may experience the opposite of the intended calming effect. While gabapentin is generally safe and effective, administering it for anxiety can occasionally lead to different or adverse reactions.
Agitation or Hyperactivity: Instead of being sedated, the dog may become irritable, restless, vocal, or bounce around as though they had a strong cup of coffee.
Increased Anxiety: The stressor may actually trigger a worse reaction if they become panicked by their own physical sluggishness or uncoordinated movements
