Alice & Fraser Horse Association Alice & Fraser Horse Association is a non-profit local horse club run by dedicated volunteers. These weekend shows are open to all AFHA members.

Bringing opportunities for local horsemen and horsewomen since 1968. The Alice & Fraser Horse Association (AFHA) was founded in 1962 by a dedicated group of local horsemen and women who wanted a venue where they could compete in western, english and hitch events each summer. The Association is still run entirely by volunteers, and while the Hitch classes are no longer held, Western and English sho

ws are still held every summer. The club operates our of the Alice and Fraser Recreation Center grounds at 1 Henan Road in Pembroke. The AFHA hosts a total of 3 Points Days each season, with Western events held on Saturday, and English on Sunday of each Points weekend. The Points shows are considered "schooling" shows, with certified judges providing valuable feedback to all riders, regardless of age, ability, experience, or discipline. Western Shows consist of a variety of western events - Halter, Showmanship, Western Pleasure, Horsemanship and Trail classes every morning,and speed-based, timed Games events every afternoon. English shows consist of Hunter/Equitation classes, with riders divided based on the ability of the rider and/or the horse. Riders accrue points at each of these 3 shows, towards trophies, belt buckles and awards at the end of the year. The awards are handed out at the annual Awards banquet, held each fall, in October. There is also a single-weekend Open Classic Show every July, run separate from the Points events. Non-members may compete at this event for a nominal day fee. The Classic is kindly sponsored by local businesses, where cash prizes and ribbons are awarded to the top 5 riders in each class! The Executive of the AFHA meets the first Tuesday of every month (except January). ‼️Important reminder to all AFHA members:

As a volunteer committee, we have experienced several instances of disrespectful comments and behaviour before, during and after our events.

At the beginning of the season, all AFHA members reviewed and signed the AFHA Ground Rules, which outline the behaviour expectations for everyone attending our events. Despite this, there have been multiple instances where these expectations have not been met.

This post serves as a reminder to all members that respectful behaviour toward committee members, volunteers, riders, spectators and fellow members is expected at all times, zero exceptions. Continued incidents of disrespectful conduct may result in formal written warnings being issued.

Our committee members volunteer their time and efforts because they care deeply about this club and are committed to providing safe, enjoyable and well-organized shows for our community. It is certainly hard to sustain the energy and positivity throughout the show season when despite our hardest efforts, instances of bullying towards riders, our committee members and more are being experienced. This behaviour won’t be tolerated any further.

We ask that all feedback be shared respectfully and in an appropriate manner. We welcome constructive feedback at any time through our club email ➡️ [email protected].
Our Facebook messenger is no longer being monitored and all communications to our club must be made through our club email going forward, and our committee members will not be answering messages regarding the club sent to their private accounts either. This will greatly benefit our committee members and allow them to collectively address and respond to everyone as soon as we are able to.

Any suggestions that do not pose a safety risk will be added to our agenda for our 2027 AGM when we discuss our next show season. We encourage members to attend this and share ideas and concerns to help us prepare for next show season. Any safety concerns brought to our attention wil be flagged and addressed immediately.
