Eddy's Journey. Eddy is progressing exceptionally well, acquiring new skills daily. He has mastered sit, wait, off, leave it, and out. We focus on refining his indoor etiquette alongside the older dogs, and this is advancing satisfactorily. He has been taking pleasure in the puzzle feeders, with four distinct options available. Today, being a holiday and rest day, we are all reveling in the beautiful weather outdoors.

🩸 Lyme & Anaplasmosis 🩸

This dog’s 4DX test came back positive for both Lyme disease and Anaplasma — two tick-borne illnesses we’ve been seeing more often lately.

🧪 The 4DX test screens for:
• Lyme disease (Borrelia burgdorferi)
• Anaplasma (Anaplasma phagocytophilum)
• Ehrlichia (Ehrlichia canis / E. ewingii)
• Heartworm disease

🕷 Lyme disease is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi, and Anaplasma by Anaplasma phagocytophilum — both spread by ticks. Some dogs show no signs, while others may develop:
• Lethargy
• Decreased appetite
• Limping or shifting leg lameness
• Fever

🩺 Bloodwork may reveal changes like low platelets (thrombocytopenia), mild anemia, or markers of inflammation. Other symptoms or complications can also arise.

💊 Treatment typically involves a 28-day course of doxycycline, an antibiotic that targets both bacteria, often leading to improvement within days.

🛡 Even with tick prevention, infection can still occur — so testing is worth considering if your dog isn’t acting like themselves, especially during tick season.
