Anxiety is something I have learnt to navigate over the years, but did you know I learnt a lot from animals?
I learnt to watch their body language and how to tell when they were anxious, when they were relaxed, the in between and how they self regulated themselves.
And what I learnt from this is the signs I was getting anxious that my body gave before the anxiety actually set in.
I learnt how to regulate before I got anxious when I noticed I was uncomfortable.
I learnt how to work through it.
I learnt that its really just your body over reacting to simple things (like crowds) because we don't have any real dangers.
I learnt how to handle anxiety because I needed to be calm around animals.
I learnt to pay attention to my own body language so they knew I wasn't a threat.
I want to come up with a way to teach people how to work with their anxiety with the assistance of their dogs.
Do you have a reactive dog? You can learn a lot from them!
Do you have a really calm dog? You can learn a lot from them too!
You can't tell your dog "you're over reacting", and you can't tell your anxiety that either (I know I wish I could). You have to show them there is nothing to be scared of in this time.
I'll take some time and share some more soon!!
