Hello folks!! Clients have been asking for advice on what to do right now with their dogs. Like, what clippers to get etc. Ok, so my advice is SLOW DOWN!! PUT ON THE BRAKES!! Yes, we are in a very weird place right now. We don't know how long this will last.
For now, I would say DON'T PANIC. Don't run out and waste your money on things that you don't know how to use! There are like a million types of clippers on Amazon I'm sure. If this is your first time thinking about this, then maybe stop thinking about it. I guarantee you will NOT be happy.
Do you have a BRUSH? COMB? SCISSORS? SHAMPOO?? All for your dog? Good! If not, perhaps visit the vet or pet store to get these items. Ask for advice on these items, as there are many choices, depending on your dog's coat.
Wash you dog, wait until dry, then get out the brush! A brush and comb are your BEST friends during this pandemic! Ok, maybe not, but they are VERY handy!! If you have a non-shedding dog, please note that THERE IS NO SUCH THING. This is why you have to get them groomed so often. Your non-shedding dog IS shedding, it's just not leaving your dog's coat, unless it is brushed, combed or cut out. After brushing, get out that comb, and get right down to the skin. If you come to a snag, that's a mat!! That's all the hair that's been sitting around together and as your dog runs, scratches and just acts like a dog in general turns into a dreadlocks. If it's not too big, extra brushing might get it out. Otherwise, that's when the good old scissors come in handy. Just be very careful not to get your dog's skin. Ouch!!
Now for the nails. Have you ever done them before? No? If that's the case, and you feel that they really need doing, phone your vet. Or watch a Youtube video. Or call me. I am thinking about posting more stuff about grooming, and the more I hear back from you, the more motivated I will be to do so!
Good luck everyone. Stay healthy. Stay safe. I miss all of you!! :)
