Well, Bear has officially moved on and is now under the full care of his new handler… or perhaps she is now under the care of Bear. 😊
We are incredibly proud of our journey with Bear. He was an absolute pleasure to raise and train, and his new handler is fully up to the task of continuing his development while he grows into the amazing service dog he was bred and born to be.
Bear is registered with the Canadian Kennel Club under the name Bella Grande’s Care Bear. He is now eligible to compete in obedience, rally, or agility right alongside purebred dogs if his young handler decides to pursue those venues.
Bear has excellent obedience and public access skills and is truly a joy to take out in public. He is trained in tasks to help mitigate his handler’s anxiety, and one of the proudest moments during handover was watching her confidently ask for those tasks in a busy public setting while Bear calmly and correctly did exactly what he was trained to do.
We are so proud of Bear, his new handler, and ourselves for the work and dedication that brought us to this point.
We are also very excited about the new direction of our program and look forward to raising and training more wonderful service, therapy, and companion dogs to help enhance the lives and happiness of our clients.
For those interested in service or therapy dogs, please feel free to reach out. We have a comprehensive information package and are always happy to sit down with you and explain the differences between service and therapy dogs, including how the laws apply to each designation.
Our service dogs take a little over a year to train. They come CKC registered, with at least one obedience title and their Canine Good Neighbour certification. We discuss the specific tasks needed to help mitigate your disability and will explain what documentation and qualifications are required for a service dog.
We also require handlers to attend at least one basic obedience class. We will help you register and support you through the process. Throughout training, families have opportunities to spend time with their puppy and receive regular updates as the dog progresses.
For more information, please feel free to reach out. Our initial consultation is approximately 2–3 hours, and there is no charge for that consultation.
