Morocco’s decision to kill thousands of stray animals ahead of the 2030 World Cup has sparked outrage across the globe. As the country prepares for the global event, many animal rights activists are condemning this extreme action, which they see as an unnecessary and cruel way to "clean up" the streets. This move has raised serious ethical questions about the treatment of animals in preparation for large-scale events.

The practice of culling stray animals in anticipation of international events is not new, but the scale of Morocco’s actions has caught many off guard. With social media bringing widespread attention to this issue, animal lovers worldwide are rallying to stop the cruelty. The incident has ignited a fierce debate about how nations should prepare for global events while balancing the welfare of animals and ethical considerations.

Many are questioning whether the country could have found more humane solutions to the stray animal issue, such as population control or relocation programs. However, the reality is that the decision to cull the animals has sparked a firestorm of backlash. The incident highlights the growing tension between the need to clean up for international events and the responsibility to protect vulnerable creatures.

This controversy is bound to have long-term consequences, not just for Morocco, but for the global community. As the conversation around animal rights continues to evolve, events like these remind us of the importance of considering the ethical implications of our actions. It’s a stark reminder that progress in one area doesn’t always mean progress for all living creatures. 🐾⚠️

Coyote Safety 101: What Every Dog Owner Needs to Know

Coyotes are a part of life in many areas, and understanding how they behave can help keep our dogs safer.

Right now, we are in coyote mating season. During this time, coyotes become more territorial and more willing to move closer to homes, yards, and neighborhoods. They are actively protecting territory and searching for food, which makes small pets especially vulnerable. Even outside of mating season, coyotes are still present and hunting they don’t disappear when the season ends.

One of the biggest misconceptions is that an attack will be loud or obvious. In reality, most incidents happen quietly and very quickly. There may be no barking or struggle sounds at all. By the time an owner realizes something is wrong, the dog may already be gone.

Yards often feel safe because they are familiar, but coyotes can easily jump fences, squeeze through small gaps, and approach without being noticed. Some will even attempt to lure dogs by acting playful or curious. Puppies, small dogs, and senior dogs are at the highest risk because they cannot defend themselves against a wild predator.

The safest approach is simple: dogs should not be outside unattended, especially in areas where coyotes are known to live.

To reduce risk:
– Always go outside with your dog
– Use a leash, even in your own yard if possible
– Scan the yard before letting your dog out
– Turn on lights at night and reduce dark hiding spots
– Make noise and be visible so wildlife knows people are present
-Carry bear spray, some coyotes do not care about humans and will attack regardless

Dogs don’t always understand wildlife danger. They trust their owners to keep them safe. Being present with them outside is one of the easiest and most effective ways to protect them.

Hi Anne,

Do you guys know anyone that would like a cat? My friend's elderly neighbour had a fall and after she is released from the hospital, she will be going into assisted living and can't keep her "good boy".

Age estimate is 5-6 years. No health issues other than needing to go on a diet. Very affectionate. Strangely not interested in climbing or shredding furniture. Loves to sit on the balcony and supervise the parking lot. Doesn’t care much for canned food, prefers kibble. Litter box trained. Likes to be combed, not brushed. When he hears my friend put the key in the lock, he rushes to the door, sits and meows a greeting. Neutered. Was found in the park where someone had dumped him, clearly not feral, but takes a few days to warm up. No shots. Loves cat grass.

My friend is highly allergic, so is struggling to even help by feeding the cat.

If someone is interested in this cat, you can call
416 817 1342 and say that Nuala is the one trying to help find a home for this cat.

Pet care needed for a shepherd/husky from 8 AM to 6 PM.

Bandit is good with other dogs and lessons as well. Just does not adjust to being kept in a kennel.

Owners are looking somewhere he can be dropped off or picked up and be able to have an area where he can get out and exercise

PLEASE CARE and SHARE FOR MYRTLE 🙏❤️

Tiny treasure Myrtle was admitted into a GTA shelter in early August. She was matted so badly that staff could barely make out her little face and in fact, the matting went so deep they had to sedate her and perform and "surgical groom". She is estimated to be approximately 15 years old and weighs just under 10 pounds.

We are searching for a Forever in Foster home for this sweet girl. This means the rescue will cover her medical needs for life. Our veterinarian has met her and assessed her. Oral examination revealed advanced dental disease, including a suspected root abscess, multiple missing teeth, and significant periodontal pathology; the remaining dentition will likely require full extraction. The rescue has an appointment for this to be done next week.

Here's what we know:
✅She is good with other dogs
✅Myrtle is housetrained
✅She may have some early onset of canine cognitive dysfunction
✅She is quiet when left alone
✅Enjoys napping and dinner time
✅Would like a foster home that is calm and peaceful

If you are interested in becoming Myrtle's forever (in foster) family, please complete our foster application at: https://www.speakingofdogs.com/volunteer/fostering/
