🌎 Meet Maddalena Jacobson, an Animal Health Advisor who spent 3 months in with our partner Wakulima Dairy—strengthening dairy management practices, supporting women farmers, and empowering communities to build more resilient livelihoods.

🐄 From training farmers to measure calf growth, to seeing women like Eunice Muthoni expand from one heifer to two high-producing cows plus a calf, Maddalena’s placement showed how small changes can spark big futures in dairy farming.

🗣️ “The title Animal Health Advisor may imply I came to teach, but in truth, I learned just as much—if not more—from the farmers, extension officers, and community members I worked with.”

🐾

Since June 2025, one of our incredible on-the-ground partners in Ukraine, Happy Paw, has been running spay and neuter clinics across the country, helping to build healthier lives for animals while helping to reduce the number of stray and abandoned pets.

📊 Impact from June–August 2025:

✨ 1,510 animals reached
🐶 604 dogs spayed/neutered
🐱 906 cats spayed/neutered

Every surgery helps to prevent suffering and support communities working hard to care for animals during challenging times.

Together with Happy Paw, VWB is proud to be part of this important work for both animals and people in Ukraine. 💙💛

🌎 Meet Dayo Olaniyan, a Gender Advisor who spent 3 months in with our partner GAPNET—strengthening gender equity in livestock production and reaching over 230 community members with gender-focused livestock training.

✨ From supporting women like Salome Opare—who went from one goat to becoming a trained Community Animal Health Worker—to sparking dialogue on shared household decision-making, Dayo’s placement was about turning equity into action.

🗣️ “My placement taught me that meaningful change happens through relationships and patience, not just technical expertise. The communities I worked with have incredible knowledge and resilience—my role was simply to facilitate discussions, build connections, and provide tools they could use.”

From crickets to chickens to cattle 🦗🐔🐄 — farmers in Battambang, are building sustainable futures for their families and communities.

🌱 This week, VWB was honoured to join Vicky Leclaire from Canada’s International Development – Global Affairs Canada on a field visit to see the lasting impact of the VETS and AGROW projects firsthand.

💚 A big thank you to our partners at AVSF Cambodia for making this inspiring visit possible — and to the dedicated farmers whose innovation and hard work continue to drive change on the ground.

🌍🤝 Celebrating ! At VWB, our approach drives collaboration with local communities and partners across the Global South to improve animal health, human well-being, and environmental sustainability. Here’s how we contribute to South-South cooperation:

🔧 Capacity Strengthening & Knowledge Sharing: We work with veterinarians and Community Animal Health Workers (CAHWs) in South Sudan, Ghana, and Cambodia, empowering them with skills in animal health, disease prevention, and sustainable agriculture. These efforts build local capacity and enable knowledge sharing across borders.

🔄 Peer-to-Peer Learning: We facilitate exchanges of ideas and best practices between communities, creating a collaborative environment where farmers, health workers, and community leaders can learn from each other’s successes and challenges.

🌱 Local Solutions for Global Challenges: By promoting gender-responsive farming practices and training CAHWs, we help communities tackle specific local issues, such as disease outbreaks and food insecurity, creating solutions that inspire similar efforts across the Global South.

🤝 Partnerships with Local Organizations: We prioritize local partnerships to ensure solutions are relevant and sustainable. Together, we foster cooperation across regions, building resilient communities.

🐓 Meet Kayla Williams, a Veterinary Student and Animal Health Advisor who spent 3 months in working with our local partner, WIPVaC-Apex, to strengthen animal care, improve biosecurity, and promote education—especially for women and girls.

✨ From empowering female farmers with parasite management training to speaking at schools on menstrual hygiene and environmental health, Kayla’s placement showed just how powerful the human–animal bond can be in rural communities.

🗣️ “The bond between farmers and their animals may be quiet, but it’s deeply rooted in survival, care, and respect.”
