Kanata K9 Dog Training/Boarding/Walking

Having some fun multitasking. None of these behaviours are perfect, I’m sure far from it. Just some self taught things through experimentation and having fun with a dog who needed an outlet. It created a connection and that’s what most people need more of is to connect with their dog , have fun with their dog sit down and observe the world with their dog. The best thing you can give your dog is time with you outdoors guiding them through life. Touch grass

Massive breakthrough with Atticus the other day. So proud of this dude ,from not being able to be around people to actually taking food from a stranger was huge and on top of that in a pet store👌🏻.

Maki recently went home from our two week program. Super fun dog and great owners 👏.

This one is way overdue like 2 months 😅- Geo and Ruby came here for a board and train because there was intra household aggression between the two as well as reactivity and aggression towards the owners. The first and last slide makes everything worth it.

Starting with Geo
Triggers for Biting or Aggression when owners were
Leaving the house grabbing clothes, bites to the point of one owner having to distract him while the other gets out and then a race to get out the door.

-Owners phone ringing would cause barking, jumping, nipping, especially toward mom.
Doorbell/house bell: Goes into a frenzy if he thinks someone’s leaving. Reacts even to similar sounds on TV.

-Mail/package delivery: Protective/anxious → has bitten when someone tried to get the door. Garbage/snow trucks: Barks intensely and has snapped when someone moved a curtain.

-Walks : Leash-reactive to dogs, kids, skaters, strollers, bikes, large vehicles, runners, etc. Has nipped them during these episodes.
Word “Bye” on phone: Learned it means someone is leaving → triggers anxious behaviors including nipping.

Vacuuming: Intense barking and needed to be removed from the house to vacuum.
Severe separation anxiety (history of crate confinement, fear of abandonment).

Multiple biting scenarios
Dislikes kids not exposed much

Ruby

Putting on Leash/Collar: Growls, shows teeth, bites when putting on collar/leash, Jackets/Shoes.
Severe bite occurred when pushing her toward crate during Geo reaction - multiple puncture wounds, broke skin deeply

- Bites when moved by collar or carried away from Geo
- growling/looking at Geo
- Turns head to bite handlers during intervention attempts

Resource Guarding
- Guards bones, treats, toys, even paper scraps
- Shows teeth first, escalates to biting if humans don't retreat

Guards bed, treats, bones from Geo
- Steals Geo's possessions
- Prevents Geo from playing or running (bites from behind)
- Would guard furniture access if allowed
- Pushes Geo to walls
- Blocks Geo's movement and access to family
- Won't allow normal dog interactions/play

Both were displaying very fearful behaviors and not comfortable in their home/ neighborhood

Beau- 1.5 year old German shepherd who was reactive towards dogs and over excited on leash. He was bullying the owner's other dog ( lab) ,at times attacking for no reason. He was at doggy daycare until he had attacked a dog before the board and train. He also would chase their cat and small animals, steal their toddlers stuff, play keep away and he was struggling with recall.

Their goal was just to have a calmer dog who was more neutral around everything, interact with dogs politely and have a dog who is off leash reliable.

I couldn't be happier for Beau and his family, he's home now doing so well. I also know his success is due to his dedicated owners , everything I do in a board and train is temporary, what the owner does with the dog will last a lifetime. For the dog to be successful everyone has to be on board, it's what makes the difference. Keeping up a dog's training will BE HARD AND INCONVENIENT at times but so will allowing the dog to behave poorly because you aren't looking for more information.

Everyone starts with not knowing what to do , not understanding what a dog needs , some will go to multiple trainers looking to help their dog not giving up when they don't achieve what they wanted. This inspires me so much the dog is truly lucky, the dog deserves it!

For those of you who are new/ newer to following our page.
This is one of my dogs Brooklyn who turned 5 today🥲.

She is the main reason we started this company just under 5 years ago. To this day one of the more challenging dogs I've ever trained, which led me to develop a passion for this stuff.

Most of the scars I have are from her , it was rough in the beginning. I'm pretty sure that's part of the reason I'm so close to her these days. She has given me empathy helping me to see that dogs with aggression/behavior problems aren't broken, bad and take a dog who is trying to attack me as something personal (which is hard) . She has shaped the way we train and I will be forever grateful.

You would never have any idea viewing from the outside which is so cool and a testament to where we are and what most dogs are capable of with the right training.

If you have worked with us or plan to, you most likely will come across her at some point as she and my other dogs play a big role
training client dogs.

I firmly believe you don't get the dog you want most of the time you get the one you need , it's up to you what you do with it.
Wishing Brooklyn a happy 5th birthday!🎂
