You might remember Winston, our patient (and staff pet!) who is a frequent flyer in our x-ray room. 🦴

Winston is a fussy patient, whose co-operation throughout the process lessens the more he is physically manipulated. Our technician, Aislinn, and assistant, Jamie, worked carefully with Winston to get him set up comfortably and positioned correctly with the help of a cozy blanket, weighted sandbags and a touch of sedation. The pair managed to get multiple views with minimal physical manipulation. Look ma, no hands!! A true testament to the wonders that Fear Free techniques paired with regular exposure can do.

Dogs have always been the ultimate shapeshifters, constantly evolving alongside human civilization and remaining our best friends throughout history. 🐾 Today, we get to enjoy dogs in all their forms and functions. Through our work here at Cedarview, we celebrate and honour not only our canine companions, but also the connections we share with them. 💙

We challenged our staff to put their clinical skills to the test by injecting an inflated balloon. 🎈 What we learned quickly is that, like so many of our patients, our staff are terrified of loud noises. 🤣

Onyx is a 15 year old Brussels Griffon who has stolen all of our hearts with her inspiring story, her cheeky sense of humour, and her adorable face. 💙 Proof that with thoughtful veterinary support, dedicated rehabilitation, and unwavering love, even the most daunting challenges can be overcome.

Onyx’s mobility journey began long before we had the chance to meet her, having experienced partial paralysis, and overcoming it with a successful cervical spine surgery. At 14 years old, the mobility issues returned, but with an increased risk of poor recovery from another major surgery. This is where her journey with us began. After months of electro-acupuncture with Dr Holzman, Onyx began laser therapy and physical rehabilitation. From there, Onyx progressed rapidly, from standing independently, to taking wobbly steps, to now enjoying her walks to the park and freedom to move around independently. 🐾

What is not shown in our videos are the major sacrifices that families make in order to care for a pet who is immobile. Without the ability to move around independently, our patients often require 24/7 supervision to ensure that they are safe & have their needs met. We are honoured to have played a roll in Onyx’s journey. 💙
