Canine Haven Rescue is a dog rescue located in Ontario, Canada. We are a non-profit, volunteer-run, foster home based organization. None of our dogs are boarded in kennels upon arrival in Canada and each rescue dog lives in a foster home prior to adoption. We specialize in rescuing dogs from abroad and re-homing them locally. All dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and subject to a health check prior to adoption. Potential adopters and fosters must first fill out an application form, have their references checked and have a home visit before placement. All donations and proceeds are designated to the care and support of the dogs and their veterinary fees. Some dogs undergo various operations prior to being adopted and these costs are high.

🌴🌴 Welcome, Nemo and Howard 🍁🍁

Let's give a big Canadian welcome to Nemo and Howard. These pups arrived October 12th from Barbados and are both settling in phenomenally with their foster families, including their canine and feline foster siblings!

Alumni Gemma ✨💙

Sweet girl Gemma found her forever home two years ago! Let's get an update on how she's been doing:

"Gemma is doing great! She is very, very smart, energetic, curious and a funny dog. She makes me laugh everyday.

Everywhere we go she gets compliments that she’s also pretty at which she half closes her eyes and flutters her eyelashes.

Last year we thought she had allergies so she got meds but only for a month. I didn’t believe it was allergies, but she was doing the reverse caugh a lot so the meds helped her. This year I was watching to see if it returned but she was fine with no runny nose or reverse sneeze.

She loves balls, all sizes from small to big like basket balls. She loves finding balls, in the park or on our walks and will carry them all the way home. She even found a big freesbee and carried it all the way home. She trusts everyone in the building, people have mentioned that she is different dog. She’s learned that anyone I talk to is safe. She still doesn’t like any delivery people.

Thank you for bringing her into my life, she really has made my life so much better. I love her very much."

MANGO / 2 yrs / FEMALE / MIXED BREED / WEIGHT (30lbs and 14kgs) / Rescued from Barbados / Currently fostered in Toronto

Good with older dog savvy kids / Good with other dogs in public / House and crate trained / Would prefer to be an only pet in her home

Mango is the perfect blend of gentle soul, couch companion, and playful goofball. Most of the time, you'll find her curled up nearby, happily snoozing while you work, watch TV, or go about your day. She's wonderfully content to relax on her own, but when it's time for cuddles, Mango is all in. She loves belly rubs, cozy couch snuggles, and resting her head on your shoulder while gazing up at you with her big, soulful eyes.

Mango has one particularly adorable habit: she firmly believes that warm seats should never go to waste. The moment you stand up from your favorite spot on the couch, Mango sees it as a personal invitation to keep it warm for you. Seconds later, you'll find her settled in with a look that says, "Don't worry, I was saving this for us."

While she's a calm and easygoing girl for most of the day, Mango has some wonderfully silly bursts of excitement. After meals and walks, she transforms into a toy-loving comedian. She'll proudly dig through her toy box, pick out her favorite stuffies and squeaky toys, then race around the house in joyful zoomies. Watching her toss a toy high into the air, catch it herself, and race off again is guaranteed entertainment.

When meeting new people indoors, Mango can be a little cautious at first, especially in busy or crowded situations. Give her a little time and space, and you'll see her affectionate personality shine through. Once she knows you're a friend, you're likely to earn tail wags, snuggles, and plenty of loving attention.

If you're looking for a loyal companion who will happily share your couch, keep your favorite seat perfectly warmed, make you laugh with her toy-tossing acrobatics, and greet you with a full-body happy dance every day, Mango might just be your perfect match.

Double trouble ~ let's chat about two ~ Eddie and Flor 💙✨

Eddie (right) and Flor (left) hit the gold mine with their forever family! Both pups were adopted from Canine Haven within the past few years - Eddie more recently - and are thriving as siblings in their FURever home. Let's get an update:

"Over time, Eddie has blossomed SO much. It's been incredible watching his personality come out and seeing him become a happy, relaxed, and confident dog. I can genuinely see and feel how much joy he has in his life now, and that makes me so happy.

One of the biggest surprises was how FLUFFY he became once he was healthy and settled! His big fluffy tail blowing in the wind is honestly one of my favourite things.

Eddie is also an absolute klutz. If there's a hole in a field, he WILL fall into it. He's goofy, hilarious, incredibly gentle, and so kind. He makes me laugh every single day, and I couldn't be more grateful to have him in my life.

He also gets along wonderfully with his sister Flor, who was also adopted from Canine Haven! The two of them are quite the pair. I have about a hundred nicknames for them: Salt & Pepper, Timon and Pumbaa, Pinky and the Brain, and many many more.

They truly are the light of my life, and I feel so lucky to have them both. Watching Eddie transform from a nervous, unsure little dog into the happy, fluffy, hilarious boy he is today has been such a rewarding experience.

It's alumni Wednesday and today we're chatting about Glenn!!

Glenn found his forever family over two years ago and he has since joined a pack of (human) brothers to cuddle and play with. Let's hear from his PAWrent:

"We are doing great!

Glenn is still the biggest snuggle bug ever. He is the best boy. He is still the favourite at his vet clinic and they are so excited when he comes in for his shots every year.

He absolutely loves napping outside in the shade and LOVES his rolly pollys in the grass as my son calls them."
