Most dog “behaviour problems” aren’t problems at all — they’re missing foundations.

At AgapiK9, we absolutely believe unwanted behaviours can be trained through. We do it every day.

But the easiest, clearest path to a calm, confident dog is building the right foundations from the very beginning.
That’s exactly what our Perfect Puppy curriculum is designed to do.

Instead of waiting for issues to show up, we focus on what prevents them:
• structure that creates clarity and calm
• confidence-building experiences without overwhelm
• crate foundations that encourage independence
• intentional socialization protocols — not chaotic exposure
• leadership habits that teach puppies how to look to their humans for guidance

Puppies aren’t born knowing how to self-regulate or make good decisions in a human world. Those skills are taught — and when they’re taught early, everything else becomes easier.

Training later is possible.
But training early is powerful.

Good dogs aren’t luck.
They’re built — and foundations make the difference 🐾

If your dog loses their mind around cats — lunging, barking, freezing, or wanting to chase — here’s the truth most people miss:
👉 Your dog doesn’t need to like cats.
👉 Your dog needs to learn neutrality.

Most reactions come from prey drive, over-arousal, or uncertainty — not aggression. And letting them “figure it out” usually makes it worse.

Here’s what actually works ⬇️

🐾 Start with control, not exposure
Your dog shouldn’t be rehearsing the reaction. Use a leash, gates, or distance so the cat can move freely while the dog stays grounded.

🛏 Teach a solid place or stay
Calm stillness is a skill. Your dog should be able to hold a place while you move, the cat moves, or the cat runs.

👀 Reward neutrality — not excitement
You’re not praising your dog for staring at the cat. You’re rewarding them for choosing to disengage, relax, and ignore.

⏱ Interrupt early
Stiff body, locked eyes, weight shifting forward? That’s your cue. Redirect calmly before it turns into a reaction.

🔁 Consistency beats time
This isn’t something dogs “grow out of.” It’s something they’re taught — through short, daily reps.

The goal isn’t friendship.
It’s peaceful coexistence.

And when a dog can calmly ignore a cat?
That same skill transfers to dogs, kids, wildlife, and busy environments.

Save this for later 💙

We often say we train humans, not dogs — and here’s why.
Dogs are incredibly consistent by nature.

They respond to patterns, repetition, and clear direction.
When behaviour breaks down, it’s almost never because the dog is being difficult, it’s because the information they’re getting is inconsistent or unclear.

We train humans to communicate clearly.
To follow through every time.
To set boundaries that make sense to the dog and actually hold up in real life.

When humans change their timing, energy, expectations, and consistency, dogs don’t need constant correction, they simply fall into place. Calm replaces chaos. Confidence replaces confusion.

So if your dog is easier to live with this year, it’s not because they suddenly “grew up” or “outgrew” behaviours.

It’s because you learned how to lead in a way your dog understands.

That’s why we start with the human.
Because when the human gets it right, the dog already knows what to do.
