Our Littles that hatched in January made great steps today in remembering humans are OK. They were climbing all over me thanks to Embers great example. It always amazes me how once they gain the independence of flight they forget we are harmless. The Light Grey has always been the bravest one and loves to nibble on my fingers. While the dark grey one likes to preen my hair and chew my hair elastic. The white/blue one was all over the place preening my hair and my hand.
Over the past couple weeks Echo (dad) has been reintroduced to the Littles to help show them we are OK to come to. It is always a heart lifting moment when they choose to land on or near us.
Life has been busy and we have been enjoying thier company so we have not been actively looking for forever homes. It was a bit of a shock to realize they have lost almost all of the baby black from their beaks. They are growing up too quickly.
They are ready for forever homes now, but we will wait until they are more human trusting before actively looking for forever homes. Interested? We look for a home that can provide flight time, a healthy diet that includes fresh fruit and veggies, and lots of love.
Lovebirds make great companions to humans, but you must be prepared to spend time with them. Depending on the website you refer to they can live 10-20 years. They are very curious and like to chew so need plenty of toys to destroy. Balsa bites have been a favorite around here. I am looking forward to shopping the bird toy sale at Pisces this weekend to get some new chew and forage toys. Happy Canada Day weekend.

One of our past Littles has come for a visit. Ember is 9mths old and finishing her first molt. She is a neat smokey blue colour that can make her look grey or blue depending on how the light hits her. She has developed more yellow feathers as she has aged. The yellow comes from both of her grandmother's. We are very grateful for her visit. She has been lots of fun doing school work with. Peek a boo is always a fun break. She even took a nap in my hoody pocket. This evening she has been sharing spinach with our latest Littles hatched in January and reteaching them that people make great friends. She even rediscovered and visited her house from when she was a chick. So much fun to see how she has grown and become more interactive. 💕

Our Littles have been doing well and the two grey ones will be looking for their forever homes soon. They have been enjoying lots of flight time so a home that provides flight time is a must. Thier diet has been seed and fresh veggies. Their favorite spot is looking out the window. At the moment they do not fly to people, although they are curious of us and do let us get quite close. With a little one on one time it should be easy to gain their trust and become their best friend.

The Littles have adjusted well to being on thier own and starting to warm up to us again. The light grey one is the bravest letting us get the closest and having landed a couple times on the body lying down in the room. They have been enjoying mornings to fly around the room and look out the window. They have been returning to the cage to eat on their own. We are pretty sure the white one is a boy and less sure the other two are female given their head and body size and likeliness to chew on things. We do not DNA test so gender is not guaranteed.

Everyone was spotted eating today and enjoyed some flight time. They were quite funny to watch trying to land on each other. No more snuggles, they were too busy flying. 😪 Noone wanted to go back home so we turned out the lights and helped them home. Over all a good day.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day. Our crazy Momma bird, Lyra, surprised us with another egg in the nest. While we decide what do with the egg (it is too soon for her to be laying another clutch), we have moved up the move out of the current chics as Dad (Echo) is being testy with the Littles. They had an amazing day out today and voluntarily tried out the new house. Once they realized there was no going back to the nest they were a little upset. I hate this part of the growing up process, I feel so mean separating them even if it is for safety. I will be keeping a close eye on the Littles for the next week to make sure they keep eating and will let them out again in a couple days once they get used to thier new home. Atleast we had a great day out, with youngest attempting (successfully) its first flight. The oldest is a little hesitant to come to us, but Light Grey and the youngest had no problems landing on us like Mom and Dad told them to. Hopefully they will continue to trust us when they come out again.

A little late posting this one. Light Grey had first bath lesson the other day. Pretty cute to watch and hilarious when the next morning they plopped themselves in the water dish and got completely soaked. It must have felt good because a couple laps were done before getting out.
The two oldest have been eating the fresh food and seed as well as coming to the door for a quick flight out and back. Tomorrow we'll be taking the nest out so Little White can have some snuggles.

The Littles came out again today. The oldest is not interested in being held for long. It will perch on fingers, climb to shoulders and jump for the nearest plant. Fortunately we sit on the flooor so it is not far to the ground. Reminds me of Petri from Land Before Time. "Did I fly?", "No Petri, you fall."
The middle one was more alert today. Instead of cuddling Little White in a hand it was perked up watching and taking notes how things are done. Little White is happy to be held. Lyra and Echo take turns watching over Little White and encouraging the oldest to fly. The two older ones have been coming out of the nest to sit on the nest box perch until a human gets too close.

Snuck in some extra cuddle time this week. The oldest is super curious and adventurous. It wanted to be exploring with Mom and Dad and with a little help made it onto a shoulder/back of neck before deciding it wanted to trying flying. Good thing we were sitting on the floor as there was not far to go and the landing was soft. The other two were happy to stay cuddled in my hands. Lyra and Echo have become super accepting of our holding the babies. With thier first clutch we weren't allowed anywhere near. Now when we move thier cage to the floor, they stand back and wait for the babies to come out and preen them while we hold them. 🥰

Birdie update. Babies are doing well and got some snuggle time in today. Everyone's feathers are coming in. Mom and Dad were great at supervising to make sure everyone was okay. The youngest looks like it will be white with blue on the wings. The oldest is the darkest grey with the most black on its beak, while the middle is a medium grey.

Babies are here (a little sooner than expected)! After doing a nest check today, we have 3 healthy chicks. Lyra and Echo are doing a great job caring for thier Littles. It is amazing the difference in development at this stage. The oldest 2 hatched March 27 and 28, while the youngest hatched a week later. Very much enjoyed our snuggles this morning we will be checking on them again next weekend. Grey on blue shirt with lots of black on beak is the oldest, beneath is the youngest grooming the middle chic.
