Jack-Jack's Puppy Coat Eviction Notice

At 5.5 months old, Jack-Jack arrived looking like a fuzzy wuzzy, 😏but underneath all that adorable fluff, it was time for some important maintenance.

This is the time when the adult coat starts growing in, the old puppy coat begins hanging around like an unemployed roommate who refuses to move out. The two coats tangle together, matting can develop quickly, and suddenly everyone is having a very bad day.

So today's to-do list:
Remove the puppy coat
Prepare for adult coat growth
Preserve Jack-Jack's comfort
Maintain his future dignity

Jack-Jack probably thinks he just came here to play with a rubber ducky.

Meanwhile, I'm over here preventing the grooming equivalent of a small-scale natural disaster six weeks from now.

This is exactly why early puppy grooming and consistent maintenance matter. A little prevention today beats shaving out coat damage later. And, he looks so handsome!!

Khaleesi visited FLOOF today for her regular 7-week grooming appointment.

Because she stays on a consistent schedule, her coat is always in great condition when she arrives. That means we're maintaining a healthy coat rather than trying to repair one that's become difficult to manage. Regular grooming helps keep appointments more comfortable for her and allows me to focus on achieving a polished finish.

After her bath, blow dry, brush out, nail trim, ear cleaning, and full groom, she's fresh, comfortable, and ready for more summer camping trips with her family. 🏕️☀️

I always enjoy seeing dogs like Khaleesi who have made grooming part of their regular routine. Consistency truly makes all the difference.

And yes, the rubber duck survived the appointment...but barely! Khaleesi is a chewer!!🦆💎

**Hazel's first haircut! 🐾**

I've been grooming Hazel since she was approximately 12 weeks old, and today, at 8 months old, she finally had her first full haircut.

Most Bernedoodles have had multiple haircuts by this age, but Hazel's coat grows much more slowly than many doodle coats, so we've been maintaining her with regular bath & tidy appointments while she learned all the grooming basics.

This is one of the reasons I spend so much time educating owners about coat genetics. Not all Bernedoodles look alike, grow coat at the same rate, or require the same grooming schedule. Every dog is an individual.

Because Hazel started grooming early and has visited regularly, today's haircut was just another normal day for her rather than a stressful experience. Building positive grooming habits from puppyhood makes such a difference.

I couldn't be happier with how this sweet girl did today. ❤️

Well...that was an adventure. 😅

This is August, a 13-month-old Samoyed/Sheepadoodle mix.

When he arrived this morning, he had about 5 inches of mixed puppy coat hanging on, and enough coat transition happening underneath to keep me busy for an extra hour and a half.

The funny thing is that from the outside, coats like this often just look 'fluffy'. Once you get into them, it's a completely different story.

After a bath, a blowout, a whole lot of brushing, clipping, and one very important rubber ducky inspection, this handsome guy walked out looking and feeling so much better.

I know short coats aren't everyone's goal, but sometimes taking a dog shorter during coat transition can actually set them up for a much more manageable coat moving forward.

He looks pretty darn cute. 🦆❤️

Some clients become family. ❤️

Today was Bath & Tidy day for Australian Labradoodles, Balloo and Ziggy.

These two gorgeous siblings were born a year apart, but you'd never know it. They're absolutely inseparable. Wherever one goes, the other isn't far behind.

Every 7 weeks they visit FLOOF for their spa day, complete with a warm bath, premium coat care, fluff dry, tidy-up, and of course, a rubber ducky or two. 🦆

One of the things I love most about working exclusively with Doodles and Poodles is getting to watch dogs grow up. Seeing familiar faces every 6-8 weeks means I get to build real relationships with both the dogs and their people.

Balloo and Ziggy are always a highlight in my day.

Aren't they adorable? ❤️

But she leaves fresh, fluffy, silky clean, and ready to enjoy summer ☀️🫧🐾

This came in wearing 14 pounds of river dirt today! That pike on the floor was only the 'pre' groom!

Jazmine the Bernedoodle came in today carrying approximately 14 pounds of river mud and enough packed coat to build a second dog. 😭😂

Three shampoos and one emotionally supportive rubber ducky later, I got her done. 🐤✨

But, the really big transformation wasn't her hair cut....

Look at how WHITE she is now compared to her last groom just 7 weeks ago. Her family removed chicken from her diet after we talked about allergy staining and the difference is pretty incredible. Last time her legs, face, belly and bum were super orange from licking and saliva staining.

THIS is why I’m constantly talking about skin and coat health. Sometimes what people think is just “dirty doodle colour” is actually irritation happening from the inside out. Jaz doesn’t just look better today, I guarantee you she also feels way better.

Also, those Bernedoodle coats are no joke. 😂 That thick, double coat felts SO easily and holds absolutely everything.

Totally worth it though.
Because LOOK AT HER. 🤍 Gorgeous!
