This is a group of barrel racers at a barrel school we put on in Oak Lake cannot put a date on it as some participants may not want to advertise how long they have been around. Needless to say it was not in this century.

Have been going through stacks of old photos and found these three shots I think were at the Meadow Lake Stampede in 1969, maybe 70. Do any of my "old" friends recognize any of them.

Today was a sad day as we laid Mississippi Mikey to rest. For over 35 years this palomino gelding, "Mikey", has roamed our pasture and looked after our broodmares and their babies. He was the last son of Mississippi Moon the horse that took Keith Young and I to first and second place in the MRCA steer wrestling one year. Another era has ended. We will miss him.

"The year was 67, National Final Rodeo, Dec. 1, a Friday night that all bull riders know" The song Red Stegall sings about Freckles Browns match with Jim Shoulders bull Tornado that night. Bronc riders check out the 5 Canadians who were there. Barrel racers should look at the huge sums of money the barrel racers of 67 rode for. I hope you enjoy some of this history.

We will be hosting open practice nights for barrel racers on Wednesday evenings fro 6;30 to 9:30. We will set the timer up around 8 for those who want to time their runs. $10 for single horse. $5 additional horses. Please let us know if you are coming. Thanks.
