Community Update — A Step in the Right Direction!

We’re happy to share that Councillor Jordan Back () has reached out and met with us to visit the affected trailheads. He’s been very understanding and supportive of reopening Braemar at Dempsey, which is by far the safest and most balanced access point for commercial dog walkers and residents alike.

He’ll also be meeting with Steve Jenkins from the DNV this Friday to discuss these concerns and advocate for safer trail access on our behalf.

This is a huge step forward, and it’s all thanks to the growing community support behind this issue. Your signatures, comments, and shares are making a real difference.

🚫 On March 15th, the District of North Vancouver officially closed access to Braemar East for commercial dog walkers.
This was one of the safest trailheads in our community, with better parking and safer loading areas than Kilmer. Closing this trailhead pushes us into unsafe alternatives — and it happened without safety improvements or meaningful consultation.
We need the District to prioritize safety over pressure from a handful of complaints.

⚠️ On Sept 4th, the District of North Vancouver removed access to the Braemar at Dempsey trailhead for commercial dog walkers.
This area has long been a safe, practical access point. Parking on the north side of Braemar Road (between Dempsey & Princess) keeps us away from homes, reduces noise complaints, and offers slower traffic + better visibility.
Instead of building on this workable solution, the DNV has shut it down — and is now forcing dog walkers into unsafe areas.
This decision does nothing to improve community safety and actively puts workers, dogs, and trail users at risk.

🚨 The DNV says Kilmer is the “alternative.” But here’s the reality:
❌ Busy road + speeding traffic where dogs must be unloaded
❌ No crosswalk to safely cross with dogs
❌ Steep, unmaintained trail with only one narrow entry/exit
The District has acknowledged these safety issues — yet no changes or upgrades have been made. Workers and dogs are being pushed into dangerous conditions.
This isn’t safe. This isn’t acceptable.

On Sept 4th, the DNV closed safe trailheads at Braemar/Dempsey and is now forcing commercial dog walkers to use Kilmer — despite acknowledging it’s unsafe and making ZERO safety upgrades.
This puts dogs, walkers, and the community at risk. We’re calling on the District to restore safe access and take action now.
