A recap from the recent Western Great Dane Club Urban Trial!

What a great weekend! The weather was beautiful but proved to be a challenge for the dogs, with some of the hottest weather we’ve had so far this season.

On Saturday we had 2/4 UTD passes and 1/3 UTDX passes. By the end of the day it was quite warm! On Sunday we had 1 pass for the day, our first UTD run.

Congratulations to all the teams who showed awesome teamwork and put in some great effort. Whether they passed or not, everyone worked hard and was fun to watch.

A special shoutout to our newest TCh, (tracking champion!) Annie, who was SO fun to watch on her UTDX. So proud of you both!

As always, a huge thank you to Barb Rose for putting on such a great test, as well as Astrid for organizing all of our many track layers. And to our track layers, thank you for coming out and volunteering your time.

It takes an enormous amount of work to put on a test, especially a two day test, so thank you!! We couldn’t do it without you!

A huge congrats to team Piper for their recent successes! Here’s what they had to say about the experience:

“I was worried about the exterior search due (what felt like) hurricane winds. Thankfully the wind died down substantially and Piper found the odour source in less than 10 seconds. Unfortunately for Piper, her handler didn’t believe her and made her go around the search area again to re-indicate the source area at just over 1 minute. Additionally, I was incredibly thankful that the club did not use cardboard boxes for containers (helping diminish Piper’s love for destruction).

An even bigger thank you to Coach Steph of K9 Leadership! Piper was part of the inaugural Thursday evening scent class where she learned to follow her nose!”

Way to go, team! 🥳

Puppies!!

We LOVE working with puppies and think the early training you do is some of the most important. We have a rigorous puppy program to help you put those little ones to work 😆

We are opening up another class of Puppy Kindergarten, starting this Saturday at 12:30pm. Check out this sneak peek into some of the skills you’ll learn.

Congrats to our recent Trail Manners students!

These three teams worked so hard and made huge strides throughout the 4 weeks of class! We passed dogs, people, runners and bikes on the trails with no problem! They learned a much of new skills plus how and when to implement them for a successful trail walk.

Some 2026 schedule updates:

We are stoked to be starting classes very soon! Due to overwhelming demand we’ve added 2 new classes- Scent Detection Level 1 and Rally-O on Sundays with Laurel! Sunday mornings in North Van and- get this- indoors! No frozen fingers for us 🥳

Our first workshop of the year will be “Small Space Skills” with Kayleigh. More info coming about next workshops, soon!
