When I first began my journey as a dog trainer, my vision was simple but powerful: to help as many dogs and people as possible. I wanted to see fewer dogs surrendered to shelters because of behavior issues and inexperienced owners. I wanted to make a real difference in the lives of both dogs and their families.
In the beginning, I searched for a mentor who shared my beliefs, morals, and values. I reached out to a trainer and boldly asked if she would teach me everything she knew. To my surprise, she didn’t think I was crazy—instead, she was excited and honored to share her knowledge with me. From her, I learned more than just training skills. She taught me the importance of collaboration and the power of working together with other trainers toward a common goal.
Over the years, my passion, values, and dedication have remained the same, but my vision has grown. I still want to help as many dogs and people as I can, but now I also want to support and collaborate with as many trainers as possible. As trainers, we are lifelong learners, and by sharing knowledge and experiences, we all become stronger and better equipped to serve our communities.
I’ve had the privilege of meeting and working with many incredible trainers throughout the years, and I am deeply grateful for the chance to share ideas, experiences, and visions with each of them. Most recently, I’ve been working with a wonderful trainer, Becky from eidolon_k9, to build a new program specifically for Littermate Syndrome that we are launching at the end of this month. While doing research, I came across Suburban K9and noticed they offered something similar to what we were creating. On a whim, I reached out to see if they might be open to collaborating. To my amazement, not only did I hear back—but it was from the owner and founder himself, Matt Covey.
Matt responded with enthusiasm, saying he would be happy to collaborate, and that’s when this incredible journey began. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that 11 years after starting, I would be sitting in a Zoom meeting with one of the top trainers in the United States—working together to help two small trainers from Saskatchewan bring a new program to life for our communities.
I feel truly honored and blessed every day—to do the work I love, to have the support of an amazing team, and to collaborate with trainers who share my values and vision. Thank you, Matt and Suburban K9, for your generosity and support. I cannot wait to share this program with other trainers, rescues, veterinarians, and the many struggling dog owners who need it most.
