My absolute favourite puzzle material has always been a towel.

Towels are always available, there are towels of different sizes and thicknesses and you can create MANY different puzzles with a towel.

The picture shows you a couple of examples.

I used this rose made by Percy's playground always in the Sensory Room, so Puck hasn’t been using it for a long time.
She was happy to see it again!

Senior Puck isn’t that interested in complex puzzles anymore (I guess she has done enough of those!).
Easy ‘snuffle and find’ puzzles like this rose are her favourite these days.

It’s always interesting to see how a dog’s interest changes over the years. When we give our dog choice we will see what they like, so we can adapt to that.

I’m also very honest to say that seeing that change hurts sometimes, it means she is really getting older. ❤️

Gratitude and appreciation

Today is my birthday.
Today is the last day of Puzzle Dog.
Today is a day of big feelings.

In 2018 Puzzle Dog was founded. The first time I stepped ‘into the light’ was at the Doggie Expo where I sold my home made fabric puzzles. That was the day I made the first connections with some amazing dog people.

Now it’s 2026 and time to close a chapter, but not without expressing gratitude and appreciation.

In the 8 years I ran Puzzle Dog there has been a lot of development and learning, for me, but also for my students: dog owners and later on also dog professionals.

I started with sewing and selling puzzles and soon realized I couldn’t produce enough of those and sending them around the world was an expensive ordeal. I decided to start writing up the patterns, which resulted in 5 pattern booklets with many different puzzles. Due to back issues I had to stop sewing a couple of years ago, but thanks to the pattern booklets there are still many dogs that get to enjoy ‘Puzzle Dog Puzzles’.

My teaching career started small with private Hersenwerk puzzle workshops and seminars. Just before the world changed in 2020 I published my first online course, that was a perfect timing! It was easy to fill the classes back then.

A couple of people (who I appreciate VERY MUCH) asked me for more and more and more and that is why I developed various puzzle courses and also a ‘Puzzle Encyclopedia’, that started as a membership. The Encyclopedia turned out to be a 189 page (!!!) pdf full of puzzle ideas, patterns, guest speakers, puzzle theory, puzzle techniques; all illustrated with videos.

More and more dog professionals started to become interested in what I did and that resulted in a cooperation with Hersenwerk for Dogs in the Netherlands. I became the tutor for the course for professionals for the international students and had a big roll in transferring the course, that used to be in person, to an online version. It was an amazing time to develop the courses with Marleen and Marieke and to guide ‘my’ students through the course.

My interest in the dogs movement and physical condition let me to ACE Freework and I did several courses taught by Sarah Fisher and Gemma Hodson. When Gemma started Dynamic Dog not long after it was a no brainer for me: I had to do her Dynamic Dog course. For the rest of my life I can blame her for seeing many dogs live with discomfort while everyone around them thinks they are totally fine. And I take that, because that quality has helped many owners to share observations with their vet and therefore get a diagnosis, treatment and better quality of life.

All my experience and knowledge combined let to the development of the Sensory Room early March 2021. In the 5 years that followed I guided 645 sessions in at least 17 different locations.

Again some dog professionals showed their interest and in 2024 I developed and started the Sensory Room course for professionals. I had the honour of successfully guiding 33 dog professionals through the course and I am still sorry that some other students sadly didn’t make it to the end. Teaching this course is what I will be missing the most together with the Sensory Rooms themselves.

I am not going to mention any more names, because I am afraid I will miss someone, but I want to shout out a huge THANK YOU to everyone who supported Puzzle Dog, I couldn’t have done it without you. Clients, repeat clients and followers: you have been my driving force!

I also want to say I am NOT SORRY for:
- the little voice in your head that tells you you should use non slip flooring
- the way you look at the puzzle potential of all kinds of materials
- the stronger bond you feel with your dog now

My biggest and deepest thanks go to . Without her Puzzle Dog would have never been there. Everything I created and learned is because of her. Her help and teachings are extremely invaluable and I don’t think there is another dog that could have done it better than her, just because we fit so well together, we are a team on every level.

Puck is now almost 12.5 years old and a lot of things have changed for her, both physically and mentally. I am going to devote more time to her and her well being the time that is still left for her.

Today I end a chapter.
Today I start a new chapter.
