Halloween is fun for us, but it can be confusing or even frightening for the dogs in our care. Whether you’re fostering, walking, or spending the evening with your own pup, here are a few ways to keep them safe and comfortable tonight:

👻 Keep candy out of reach.
Chocolate, xylitol, and other sweets can be toxic. Make sure no candy is left where curious noses can find it, especially during trick-or-treat visits.

🕯️ Be careful with decorations.
Dogs can easily knock over candles, pumpkins, or get tangled in cords. Keep decorations out of wagging-tail range.

🚪 Watch the door.
With so many visitors, it’s easy for dogs to slip out. Keep them in a quiet room away from the front door, or use a baby gate for extra safety.

🦴 Costumes are optional.
If a dog isn’t comfortable in a costume, skip it. Choose something simple and soft if they seem to enjoy dressing up.

🌙 Double-check ID tags.
Make sure collars fit properly and ID tags are up to date in case of an unexpected escape.
