π₯ HOT TOPIC π₯ RAW FOOD π₯
π₯© Though raw diets are popular with breeders and pet owners, the nutritional benefits are unproven.
πΊ The idea that raw food diets mimic foods eaten by wolves or wild cats appeal to many people. Raw food diets, however, are not optimal for domesticated dogs and cats that live longer, healthier lives in a home environment.
𦴠Studies consistently show that home made raw diets often have nutrient deficiencies which can lead to skeletal and developmental defects, as well as vitamin and mineral deficiencies.
𧫠Bacterial contamination is most often reported with raw meat based diets. Zoonotic pathogens such as E. coli (resistant to certain antibiotics), listeria, salmonella, and toxoplasma gondii are all commonly found in raw meat diets. These pathogens pose a major risk to pregnant individuals, young children, elderly and immunocompromised people.
