With some high temperatures this week, we want to remind everyone!

Please do not leave your pet in the car! ❗️ It is better to leave your furry friends at home where they can be safe and cool.

And if you are visiting our store, remember we are PET FRIENDLY and we LOVE to see furry friends sniffing around the store (on a leash, of course).

It's not cool to leave pets in hot cars!

With the soaring temperatures, this is a reminder to not leave pets in hot cars or outside in the sun for too long. See a pet trapped in a hot vehicle? 😲 Remember… ACT! A-C-T. ❗

A – Assess the situation. Signs that a pet may be in distress from overheating include exaggerated panting, rapid breathing, drooling, dark pink gums, lack of coordination, inability to get up, vomiting, convulsions or collapse. 😿

C – Collect information. Note relevant information about the vehicle (make, model, license plate, colour, exact location) and pet’s description (species, size, colour, breed if known). 🚗🐾

T – Time to call. ☎️ If you cannot find the owner and the animal is in distress, call your local police, RCMP, or the Nova Scotia SPCA at 1-888-703-7722 and stay at the vehicle until reinforcements arrive.

Starting today, Tuesday, July 22, you will see a sign on our donation doors to please ring the doorbell for service. This means those doors will be locked. Once you ring the doorbell, a member of our team will be out to help you.

We kindly ask that you do not leave donations outside the door or bring them through the store.

We appreciate your cooperation as we make the transition, and we look forward to seeing you at our store soon!

NOSE BOOP! 💙 Our store will be closed for shopping and donations on July 1st. We look forward to seeing you when we re-open on Wednesday, July 2nd at 10 a.m. 🥰

With a day filled with events around the province, remember that many pets have extreme anxiety and panic when they hear fireworks. 🎉 Running away from the noise is a survival instinct and many pets go missing. It is best to keep your pet inside at home, so they are safe and secure. 💙

The Kings SPCA Thrift Store will temporarily close donations. Unfortunately, we are at max capacity and don't have enough space to put everything right now. We do appreciate all of your kind donations; however, we do ask that you hold onto them a little longer. Please keep an eye out for a post in the next day or two when we're ready to open our donation drop-off again.

We are open for shopping, regular hours.

June is National Indigenous History Month. Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day.

A time to honour and celebrate the history, cultures, resilience, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada. We acknowledge that we are on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaw People, known as Mi’kma’ki. We recognize the deep and ongoing connection Mi’kmaq communities have to this land.

This month and beyond, we invite and encourage our staff, volunteers, supporters and community to deepen their understanding by getting involved in meaningful ways and engaging with Indigenous storytellers by reading books, attending local events, and listening to the voices that have always been there.

The Kings SPCA Thrift Store will be closed this Saturday, May 31, for shopping and donations in celebration of the Apple Blossom Festival and Parade. If you’re attending the festivities, we hope you have lots and lots of fun! 🥰
