This week we celebrate Veterinary Receptionist Week and recognize the incredible people who keep our clinics running smoothly every single day.

Veterinary receptionists are often the very first voice a worried pet owner hears and the first smiling face they see when they walk through the door. They juggle ringing phones, urgent appointments, emotional conversations, scheduling challenges, medical records, prescription requests, and countless behind-the-scenes tasks—all while showing compassion, patience, and professionalism.

They help comfort grieving families, support anxious pet owners, coordinate emergencies, and keep the entire veterinary team organized in the middle of busy, unpredictable days. Their role requires empathy, resilience, multitasking, and an incredible ability to stay calm under pressure.

Veterinary receptionists are the heart of client communication and an essential part of patient care. Their kindness and dedication make an enormous difference to pets, clients, and the entire veterinary team.

Update: I found a home! 😻 Thank you everybody!

Hi Everyone! You may recognize me from a previous post in March when I was found and taken to the Pictou Veterinary Clinic for shelter. Nobody has claimed me, so I’m now available for adoption! Since my captivity, I have been neutered 🙀 and had my first set of vaccines. I’m currently going by the name Thom, but if you adopt me, I will take any name you give me 😺. I’m not very nice to doggies, I find them to be very space invasive and I’m not accustomed to that! I’m not even really good with other kitties, I’m the jealous type who wants all of the attention to myself. I would be best in an adult only household, I think, children can be LOUD and that scares me. I am a VERY sweet boy though! If you are interested in meeting me, I will be at the Pictou Clinic, they’re open Tuesday’s to Thursday’s 9am-12pm and 1pm-5pm. You can reach my keepers by phoning 902-485-2000.
