PUPPIES!!!!

This morning we had the pleasure of having a bit of a puppy PlayTIme here at Moto-Vated Dog Training.

Ellie, Blanche, and Maisel had a great play and we practiced some skills as well.

Do you have a new puppy this spring? Don't miss out on a great safe way to socialize your puppy so they can gain confidence, learn important puppy skills; like how to play properly, and bite inhibition, and also, well they have a lot of fun and are really tired after their playtime.

We had a big day here at Moto-Vated dog training-

It started with a dog hike with these two and well even us trainer come to realize when you don’t PRACTICE your skills we lose our abilities.

We ran into a bunny! 🐰 luckily I had Sprocket on a long line as he wasn’t listening at all, well with all the spring smells he was struggling when normally this recall is not an issue for him- but I noticed really quick that Sprocket couldn’t listen.

I want you to think about something- if you were fit and ran marathon- but then took a year off and didn’t run at all, could you just sign up and GO run 42kms? Likely not, you would have to train your body.

It’s kind of the same thing with dogs. If you don’t train on a regular bases the dogs will loose their skills. So because I’ve not practiced our skills all winter- Sprocket had a bad walk today and had to stay on leash!

Practice makes PERFECT!

We finished the day off with 4 training sessions with clients working on impulse control, recall and leash walking! Everyone doing such a great job!

If you have some problems you need help with reach out and let’s chat!

SPRING CLEANING?!?🧹🧽 I personally have been getting a bit of spring fever. Signs of Spring are happening here in PEI (although it's still cold, but most of the snow melted❄️) and that got to thinking about the spring clean.

Have you thought about how cleaning your house can affect your pets? What do I mean by this? Well the Chemicals you use to clean can most definitely cause health issues with your pets, chemicals can be ingested when you wash your floors and then pets walk across the floor- then they go lick their paws, or you drop something on your clean floor and the dogs are licking up the floor – I can say my dogs lick their whole eating area to make sure they got every last dribble of food. It can be devastating for your dog to have continued exposure to chemicals you clean with. 🐈🐕

👃On top of that, the inhalation of chemicals. I don’t know if you have been in a room after using some chemicals how potent the chemical smell is (I personally am very sensitive to the chemical smells- likely because I do not use chemicals) Now think about the fact that a dogs smell is significantly stronger than a humans ability 10,000 to 100,000 times more acute – if it is difficult for me to be a room full of chemical smell think about how hard it is to be a dog!
When cleaning my house, I use Norwex products to protect myself and my dogs. I suggest you should do so too.

Recently I became a Norwex Consultant again. Years ago, I was a consultant, and I bought some of the products like the floor mopping system, window cleaning cloths, dish mats, kitchen towels, counter cloths, bathroom cleaning paste, spiri sponges, dusting mitts and more. Obviously, I didn’t purchase everything, and a lot has changed in the 10 years since I was a consultant, but I can say I use the Norwex items still to this day and I have replaced the containers of cleaning products like the cleaning paste and the spiri sponges (which I use every single day), but the other things like the mop system and dusting wand, kitchen towels are still going strong (some may have some stains now lol) but they have lasted and its been well worth the investment.

If you are interested in learning more then please contact me and I would be happy to discuss some chemical free options for you, your family and pets! You can also just go directly to the website and have a look at the catalogue, if you would like to order something I would greatly appreciate it if you clicked on the top right-hand part of the screen “Find a Norwex Consultant” and type my Name Shawna Gower and I can help you place your order. This is so interesting and I just saw this on a post regarding buying Canadian- a consumer was confused/concerned about switching dog food from Iams to this brand and the concern was and I quote “not too crazy about the idea of raw meat ingredients”

First of all I want to say- the “raw meat” in which this food is made of is no longer raw… it’s processed cooked and cooked and cooked dog food.

The second thing I find concerning is dog food companies know that the raw diet is kind of taking off so now they are trying to get you to think you’re doing better feeding a food that is RAW! It’s a marketing gimmick- and it’s very sad.

The other sad thing is that pet parents have been so manipulated by vets and god knows who else that they think “Raw” is bad they don’t want to feed a kibble that said it’s been made with a Raw ingredient-

The second picture is what a raw whole food dog food meal looks like. That is Sprocket’s Breakfast. If you have questions about feeding a raw food diet please reach out and let’s chat!

These pictures pop up on my personal page as a memory every year and I always feel compelled to tell you about Moto's story regarding the tumor I found in his mouth all those years ago. I do this to remind you to keep an eye on your dog!!!!.

Sept 2019 The picture on the left was taken at Crofton Lake in BC on a hike, where I discovered the tumor only because it had started to bleed, I had thought maybe he had cut his tongue or something and when I propped his mouth open I found that! Who knew how long it had been growing? I sure didn't know and because I didn't look in his mouth and his tongue flops over that area it wasn't seen. I feel terribly guilty as possibly this whole ordeal could have added to the reason of his death a year later I don't know.

At the time I went to a local vet and was told it was an aggressive tumor but not cancerous - but needed to be dealt with immediately. So, not doing any research I allowed that vet to do the surgery to remove it. In the following months the site did not heal properly and it got infected, and there was complications. This vet referred me to a dental specialist (who ended up not being a specialist at all) this vet told me that most likely this had turned cancerous and the best course of action was to remove his entire bottom jaw. In my mind this was not the option. Moto would not enjoy life the way I was told the recovery for this would have been. No running around, he would have to wear a muzzle to protect the area, he couldn't pick up shoes (his favorite past time) I decided this was not going to happen.

In Dec 2019 I then got in contact with my Holistic Vet and my Homeopathy Dr, and we started a protocol for cancer, we continued that protocol until I got an appointment with a dental surgeon/specialist in Vancouver. In Feb on 2020 we went in for this surgery (picture on the right) The Doctor wanted to make sure that this tumor which most likely spread to cancer because it had being disturbed (and the correct margins from the first vet were not taken), he needed to know if Moto had cancer running through his body, because if he did have cancer throughout his body he would not be doing anything more for Moto. In this surgery Moto's lymph nodes were removed, and they also removed more of his gums ( I believe they also removed one more of his teeth so it could get better margins.)

The test results came back that the lymph nodes were cancer free and the tissue sample in his mouth was also cancer free. So it was all left as he was good to go and healthy. Who knows if the homeopathy protocol we did cured him or if it hadn't actually spread to cancer - nobody will ever know. The unfortunate thing is he did pass away a year later from a ruptured tumor in his spleen so I guess within that last year he did get cancer. I don't have the answers to that question either - but this is why I question the food we feed our pets, the medicines that are prescribed (what are the side effects) and what toxins and poison's are our pets in contact with? (flea and tic preventatives is POSION!!! don't feed them pills or put the topical liquids on them there are better ways to deal with it)

But there is some valuable lessons I learned that I am passing on to you.
1-Check your dog's over for lumps and bumps especially their mouths!
2- Investigate who you are letting operate on your pets. If it is something to do with Cancer please please seek out a specialist.
3- Advocate for your pet and think twice before doing something radical like removing jaws! Can you imagine if I had of put Moto through all of that?!?
4 - Ask a lot of questions to your vets - read what the side effects are on drug labels. Remember there are holistic alternatives that wont have side effects like western medications.
5 - Feed your pet whole fresh foods (even if you are feed them on top of the kibble) but don't rely on synthetic vitamins to fuel your pets
