25 years ago today I opened the doors of my vet practice. There are not many of us that start a practice and are still a solo veterinarian 25 years later. I understand why there are so few - Veterinary medicine is exceptionally exhausting physically, emotionally and mentally. There are many things about it to love and enjoy but that doesn't mean it isn't difficult. I didn't know if I would make this day. I've had 6 serious fractures over the last three years. But animals wait for no one. I know one thing for sure that I wouldn't have made it without this team - so a shout out to Kyran, Jenna and Renee. It takes a village. Cheers to me too.

We are so excited to hear how Shmewzika is doing with her new family. It was wonderful to be a part of her healing journey. From the moment we met her we knew that she was a very special cat and she needed a chance to regain her mobility. She was lucky to have a team at the SPCA and foster family that also believed she could do it. She is another example of how powerful love and laser can be.

Happy Ending Saturday! In February, our lovely Shmewzika found her furever family, and they are so in love with her! Shmewzika came to us last November with a lower back fracture, unable to walk. With lots of loving foster care and six weeks of cold-pulse laser therapy donated by Dr. Theresa Hart at Cottonwood Falls Animal Clinic, Shmewzika regained most of her mobility. Her adopters tell us that she is quite active now, jumping on top of things and doing the stairs! "She's like having a puppy! Always playfully greeting us and waiting for a treat!" Congratulations to Shmewzy and her new family! Thanks to everyone who made this possible.

It is quite a fun day when your patients come dressed in the same outfit as your front end manager. Jenna came to us from the wilds of Edmonton, hence the very warm parka. With her wealth of experience gleaned in Alberta vet clinics, she has whipped us into shape very quickly and has become a very valued and loved team member.

Sometimes the most unexpected things really perk you up. This dear little hamster came in with a nasty wound on her belly. Initially she was very hesitant to enter her medicated bath, but once she did she frolicked in the warm water and we all fell deeply in love with her, especially Renee.

It is always a great day when the puppies from Russian Spaniels of Nelson come for their first exam and vaccinations. Their mom Ashe (and human -Robyn) have raised an incredible group of dogs- so vigorous and well socialized already!

We lost our dearest clinic cat Sammy today. She was surrendered to us almost 4 years ago as a geriatric cat with a multitude of health issues. For several months we had a hard time treating her - she just snarled and hissed in her kennel and wouldn't come out. There was something about her tenacious spirit that compelled us to keep trying. She turned into the most vocal, sweetest cat known to man. Her job was reception and from her own chair she commandeered the front end for the last 3 and a half years. She loved combing August's hair during the day with her not too clean claws. She loved feeding time the most and with her dominant spirit had most of the cleaning staff cowering to her every whim. She endeared herself to everyone that had the pleasure of medicating her. Her assertiveness mixed with humility had even noncat lovers cherishing her acknowledgement. It is a testament to her profound spirit that all former emplyees during her tenure would come for a visit especially to see her.

If this isn't an antidote to quarantine, I don't know what is - a litter of Boston/pugs in for their first vaccinations!...
