🐾 A Thanksgiving Weekend Miracle for Mace 🐾
Meet Mace, a sweet 9-year-old Newfoundland Dog who recently stole the hearts of our entire team, this past Thanksgiving. Mace arrived at our hospital, just a few days before the Thanksgiving weekend, with significant front-limb lameness and severe pain. After extensive diagnostic imaging—including X-rays and CT scans—our team discovered that Mace required spinal surgery in his neck to relieve the compression causing his discomfort.
During the initial procedure, unexpected complications arose, and the surgery had to be stopped. It became clear that to give Mace the best possible chance at recovery, a board-certified Neurologist would be needed for a second surgery. But it was Thanksgiving weekend, and here in Newfoundland, access to a veterinary neurologist on short notice is extremely rare.
That’s when teamwork, determination and having the backing of a corporation made all the difference. Our Practice Manager quickly reached out to our Chief Medical Officer in Quebec—and within just two days, a Neurologist flew all the way to Newfoundland to help Mace. The second surgery was a success, and the entire team rallied around him throughout his recovery. After 7 days in hospital, Mace got to go home with his family!
✨ Today, Mace is doing wonderfully. His family is thrilled to have their happy, goofy, pain-free boy back, and we couldn’t be more grateful to have been part of his journey.
Thank you to Mace’s family for trusting us, and to our incredible team and colleagues for making the impossible happen. We truly would not have been able to do this for Mace without you! ❤️
A note from Mace's Family:
"Our family had our first experience with VSC this past October. An emergency vet clinic is never somewhere you want to find yourself, but it was our reality, and our boy, Mace, wasn't doing so great. During a very scary, emotional time, the staff at VSC met us with understanding and compassion. Mace's situation was complex and serious, but received the best possible treatment, and has been recovering at home with his favourite kids and Newfie brother. VSC gave us our boy back, and for that we will be forever grateful."
