The Basenji is one of the most fascinating and unique dog breeds! 🤩 They are an ancient hunting dog from Central Africa 🌍 And our Kiwi is definitely one of a kind ✨️

Here are three interesting facts about the Basenji:

🧡 They Don't Bark 🧡
Basenjis are often called the "barkless dog." Due to the unique shape of their larynx (voice box), they can not produce the traditional bark. Instead, they make a variety of expressive sounds, known as a "baroo" or a yodel.

💜 They Groom Themselves Like Cats 💜
Basenjis are remarkably very clean dogs. They frequently groom their short coats by licking themselves, much like a cat. This is why they are often described as having a "cat-like" personality and tend to have little to no "dog smell."

💛 They Only Go Into Heat Once a Year 💛
Unlike most modern dog breeds, which typically have two heat cycles per year, the female Basenji only comes into season once a year (usually in the autumn). This is a characteristic shared with wild canids like wolves and dingoes, further highlighting the Basenji's ancient lineage.
