On August 21, we thought we might finally get an answer.
Sasha is anemic.
With her anemia and no SNAP test having been done up to that point, there was one result we were particularly afraid to see.
Feline leukemia.
But no. โค๏ธโ๐ฉน
๐ฆ๐ฎ๐๐ต๐ฎ ๐๐ฒ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ป๐ฒ๐ด๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐ณ๐ฒ๐น๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ ๐น๐ฒ๐๐ธ๐ฒ๐บ๐ถ๐ฎ.
She did test positive for FIV.
Her abdominal ultrasound was also normal.
No mass.
No obvious internal bleeding.
Not the answer we were desperately looking for.
Nearly another $800.
Two pieces of good news.

Her hematocrit was at 23%.
Then 21%.
She has now had bloodwork on August 17 and August 21, and she will need another blood test on August 27 to see which direction her anemia is heading.
And while we try to figure that out, all of Sashaโs other problems havenโt simply disappeared.
Her enormous wound is still healing.
The significant back pain she had before this wound even appeared is still part of her medical case.
So is her herniated disc.
And the MRI that will cost several thousand dollars and that she will need to truly understand what is happening with her back is still ahead of us.
Then this week, we removed her cone for a few minutes so she could eat more comfortably.
And we discovered something else. ๐ญ
After eating, Sasha started frantically scratching at the sides of her mouth with her front paws.
We looked.

We had noticed that she had been drooling more over the past few days.
Now, we may understand why.
If we can first stabilize Sasha, her mouth will also need to be investigated, and dental treatment may eventually be added to everything else.
And this is where that $3,000 becomes hard to swallow.
