Earth Day march in Montréal. Thousands of people, hundreds of signs, almost all of them pointing at governments and corporations.
And then there was me. 15, holding up a cow. 🐄
Don't get me wrong, governments and industries carry a massive share of the responsibility for the climate crisis. But here's the part nobody wants to hear: 95%+ of the people marching that day still eat animal products at every single meal. They're protesting climate destruction while funding one of its biggest drivers three times a day.
Banning plastic straws is fine. Sorting your trash is fine. But let's stop pretending that's real commitment. Going plant-based is the baseline. It's the single most impactful daily choice any of us can make for the planet, and for the billions of animals nobody at that march was talking about.
If every person who calls themselves an "ecologist" actually went vegan, the world would already be in a better place.
So yeah, I felt kind of alone out there. But I'd rather stand alone with a cow sign than blend into a crowd that refuses to connect the dots.
Earth Day Is a Joke if You Still Eat Animals
