Poor Dak is still waiting for his perfect forever family, and we’re really hoping the right people see this post soon. 💔

We have spent over $10,000 on boarding costs alone for Dak, and we simply cannot afford for him to end up back there. What he truly needs is a home, structure, love, and someone willing to give this amazing boy a chance.

Dak may not be a tiny puppy, but trust us when we say this big handsome goof is SO worth it.

Dak is a 2.5 year old coonhound/American bulldog mix. He weighs 70lbs!

This high energy, lovable sweet boy is full of personality, enthusiasm, and affection. He absolutely thrives on human connection and active days. Dak is looking for an active home with the time, patience, and energy to help him continue being the best boy he can be.

Dak is a smart boy who genuinely wants to please. He’s learning boundaries, responds well to guidance, and does best with consistency and structure.

He’s also a dog who truly needs an outlet for his energy. The “tired dog = happy dog” saying fits Dak perfectly. With 2–3 hours of exercise a day, he absolutely shines. Hiking buddy? Adventure partner? Running companion? Dak would LOVE that life.

Because of his size and enthusiasm, we are looking for a home without young children. He would enjoy a dog friend, but no cats please, his hound nose and love of chasing make feline roommates a little too exciting.

And fair warning… if there’s food nearby, Dak WILL investigate. Counters, bags, pockets, nothing is safe from that talented nose. 😂

This fun loving girl is full of personality! Roo loves playing with her big foster sister, zooming around the yard, and entertaining herself with toys. Fetch is one of her favorite games, and she’s always up for an adventure.

Roo is great with other dogs and wonderful with kids. While her foster home doesn’t have cats, her brother Freddy does well with them, and since Roo is still just a baby, she should adjust well with proper introductions and guidance.

This sweet girl is active, curious, playful, and full of sunshine. She loves exploring the world around her and is very food motivated, which makes training easier, though she is still a young puppy with lots left to learn!

Officially introducing Bingo and her beautiful babies now that they’ve had a few days to settle into their foster home.

Bingo is an owner surrender from Attawapiskat. Her owner made the loving decision to send her south so she could be spayed and find a home where she won’t have to have any more puppies.

At only around 11 months old, Bingo is still just a puppy herself, and she made the journey with her own little ones, who will also be looking for loving forever families. The puppies are currently 7 weeks old, so they’re not quite ready for adoption just yet, but we couldn’t wait to share their cute as can be photos with you!

These sweet babies will spend the next couple of weeks growing, thriving, and completing their vetting before they become available for adoption.

As for mama Bingo, she’ll be waiting a few weeks until she has finished nursing before she can be spayed. During that time, we’ll be getting to know her personality and what she’ll need in the perfect forever home.

Springer has now been in our care for nearly 8 weeks, and we still haven’t received a single application for this sweet boy’s forever family. 💔

We’re honestly surprised, because Springer is such a loving, affectionate guy with so much love to give. He’s been patiently waiting for someone to see just how special he is.

Springer is ready to find a family to call his own, one that will give him the love and home he deserves.

Yesterday, our incredible volunteers packed up supplies and made the long trek to Timmins to deliver crates and dog food to the airport, where they’ll be making their way to northern communities. ❤️

Today, they’re making the journey home with some dogs in need of placement, giving them the chance at a fresh start.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated crates and food for this trip, your support makes these life saving transports possible. We are always collecting more crates to send back north, so please keep us in mind if you have one to donate!

Special thanks to Pet Valu Brampton for their generous donation of food, both for the communities up north and for some of our newest intakes here in care.

In total, 750 lbs of food is heading north, along with much needed crates.

None of this would be possible without this amazing community. Thank you for your continued love, generosity, and support in helping us make a difference for these dogs.

Sadly, Kiki has been returned to our care through no fault of her own. Her family experienced a sudden medical issue that has made them unable to keep her.

Kiki is settling back in with her foster and doing well. She’ll be getting some time to decompress while we get her annual vaccines updated, and once she’s ready, she will be listed for adoption again.

As you can see, Kiki is a wonderful girl who is great with dogs of all sizes and does well with cats too.

We know her perfect forever home is still out there, and we’ll be sure to share more about this sweet girl when she’s ready.

This weekend, we welcomed Freddy and Roo into HHK9 care!

These sweet siblings made the long trek from Thunder Bay with the help of our friends at Northern Reach Network, and they’ve been settling beautifully into their foster homes.

Over the coming weeks, we will be completing their vetting and spending some time for us to learn more about their personalities, needs, and what kind of forever homes will suit them best.

A special thank you to the incredible volunteers who helped coordinate their journey and to the amazing foster families who opened their homes and hearts to make this possible. None of this could happen without the dedication and compassion of supporters. ❤️

🚨 AIRLINE CRATES NEEDED 🚨

We’ve sent dozens of airline crates up to Attawapiskat to help dogs make their journey south to safety. Unfortunately, only a handful remain there, and only a couple have made their way back.

We are always happy to lend crates to anyone able to fly dogs out, but the crates must be returned to Atta so more dogs can continue to leave the community safely.

Right now, we are urgently looking for donations of:
• Large airline crates
• XL airline crates

These crates are essential for getting dogs out and into foster and adoptive homes.

🚨 ADULT DOG FOSTERS NEEDED 🚨

Everyone loves puppies.. and we get it! They’re adorable, and starting with a “clean slate” can feel easier, especially with kids or other pets. But here’s the truth… adult dogs are the hidden gems of fostering. 💛

They’re often already house trained (or pick it up quickly), sleep better through the night, are calmer, and way less bitey. No constant mess, no endless potty breaks, just a dog who’s ready to settle in. Honestly? They’re so much easier than you might expect.

We’re looking for fosters of all kinds:
✨ Fenced yard or no yard
✨ Kids or no kids
✨ Pets or no pets
✨ Experience or none at all

We provide everything you need, you just provide the love, a safe space, and help getting them to vet appointments while they prepare for their forever home.

And if you fall in love? We don’t believe in strict “foster fail” rules. If your foster turns out to be your heart dog, you’ll have the opportunity to adopt if it’s the right fit. Because at the end of the day, we just want the right matches.

Right now, we’re having to turn away adult dogs in need due to lack of fosters 💔
Including a 10 month old mama dog, still just a baby herself, but already raised 4 puppies (who all found placement!). Now it’s her turn to find a soft place to land.

We also still need a cat free foster for Dak, and we have a dog being returned due to unfortunate health issues in the family, no fault of the dog. As well as Hailey will need to find a new foster or adoptive home by the end of May.

We cannot continue to help dogs in the north if we have nowhere for them to go.

If you can open your home, just temporarily, you can truly change a life.
