Canada Day is a time to come together with family, friends and neighbours to celebrate this wonderful country we call home.

Canada is rightly known as a place of safety, a place of fairness, and a place of beauty. It’s also a place of opportunity and diversity where everyone is free to be themselves.

Part of being Canadian means standing up against injustice, even if that injustice is part of our own history. Historical wrongs, including treatment of those who lived here before settlers or of those who looked different, means Canada Day has different meaning for different people.

Today, let us celebrate our country, reflect on what it means to each of us, and look for ways to ensure everyone can build a good life here.
