We had the pleasure of welcoming a litter of Rottweiler puppies to the clinic this week for their puppy wellness exams and first set of vaccinations. They definitely kept us on our toes and brought a lot of joy to the team.
Early wellness visits are an important part of preventive care. These appointments allow us to check your puppy’s overall health, monitor their growth and development, and start their core vaccine series to protect against diseases such as parvovirus, distemper, and adenovirus.
It is also a great opportunity to discuss nutrition, behavior, parasite prevention, and any questions you may have as your puppy grows.
If you have recently welcomed a new puppy into your home, we would love to help you get started on a healthy path. Call our team or book online to schedule your puppy’s exam.

What is Parvovirus?
Canine parvovirus (parvo) is a highly contagious and potentially life-threatening viral disease that affects dogs, especially puppies under six months of age. The virus attacks rapidly dividing cells in the body, most commonly in the intestinal tract, leading to severe gastrointestinal illness.
Symptoms of parvo include:
-Vomiting
-Severe, often bloody diarrhea
-Lethargy
-Loss of appetite
-Fever or low body temperature
Because the virus damages the lining of the intestines, affected dogs can become severely dehydrated and are at high risk for sepsis and death if not treated promptly.
How is it spread?
Parvo is shed in large amounts in the f***s of infected dogs. It can survive in the environment for months, and even trace amounts of f***l matter on paws, shoes, or surfaces can be enough to infect another dog. This makes the virus incredibly resilient and dangerous, especially in areas with lots of dog traffic such as parks, kennels, and grooming facilities.
Prevention is key.
The most effective way to protect your dog from parvo is through vaccination. Puppies should begin their vaccine series at 6 to 8 weeks of age and continue every 3 to 4 weeks until at least 16 weeks old. Until your puppy is fully vaccinated, it is important to limit exposure to high-risk areas.
If you have questions about parvo or need to schedule your puppy’s vaccine series, give us a call. Early protection saves lives.
