I need to share this; what she says is true— a hard truth from some but true nonetheless 🙌🏻

I am a pet groomer.
Not a behaviourist, not a trainer, not a Veterinarian.

I think sometimes we need to remember where a groomer’s responsibility ends and an owner’s begins. Groomers seem to be one of the only pet professionals who are routinely expected to train an animal to tolerate the service while simultaneously providing the service.

If your dog is terrified of the vet, we don’t expect the Veterinarian to spend every appointment training your dog to accept being examined. We work with a trainer, learn the appropriate techniques, and then we, as owners, put in the work between appointments. My own German Shepherd doesn’t like being handled by strangers at the Vet. So I’m taking her to training. The trainer is giving me the tools to help her become comfortable with handling, but ultimately it’s my responsibility to practice those skills with her. It is not my Veterinarian’s responsibility to train my dog during her appointment.

Grooming should be treated the same way. A good groomer can absolutely work patiently, use appropriate handling techniques, recognize stress signals, make accommodations, and help create positive experiences, but we cannot undo months or years of fear, lack of exposure, or behavioural issues during a grooming appointment while also trying to safely complete the groom.

Desensitization happens through consistent, repeated work, not once every 6-8 weeks on the grooming table. Your groomer can be part of the team, and your trainer can give you the tools, but at the end of the day training and preparing your pet for the world is the owner’s responsibility.

A little something different from dog grooming today. 🦋

Over the past few weeks, we’ve had the privilege of raising monarch caterpillars—from tiny hatchlings, to hungry little leaf munchers, to beautiful chrysalises.

This morning, our very first butterfly emerged! After giving its wings time to dry and strengthen, we watched it take its first flight this afternoon. It was such a special moment to witness.

We still have two more waiting patiently in their chrysalises and one very hungry caterpillar enjoying fresh milkweed leaves, so the adventure isn’t over yet!

Nature never ceases to amaze me, and I couldn’t resist sharing this little milestone with all of you. 💛🖤🧡

Has anyone else been raising monarchs this summer?

📅 Booking Update 📅

Just a quick update for everyone!

July is completely full, and August is filling up fast. With summer being my busiest season, I currently have very little flexibility in my schedule.

I’ve been receiving requests to move appointments, but at this time I don’t have any extra openings available. My first priority is finding spots for the dogs that had to be rescheduled following my recent hospital stay due to acute appendicitis.

Once school is out, I’ll be extending my working hours where possible to help accommodate those clients who were affected and need to be rebooked.

If your dog is due for grooming in the coming months and you haven’t booked yet, I strongly encourage you to schedule your appointments in advance. Summer appointments fill quickly, and I would hate for anyone to miss out.

Thank you all for your patience, understanding, and continued support—it means so much to me! ❤️🐾

📅 Booking Update – Please Plan Ahead

As of today, June 1st, availability for June is already very limited.

I’ll also be volunteering at the school quite a bit this month, and with the school year wrapping up in less than a month, my schedule is filling quickly.

Please also note my summer closure dates:

☀️ July 18th–26th
☀️ August 15th–23rd

During these times, the salon will be closed, and I will not be answering calls, texts, messages, or booking requests.

Last year, our family holidays were unexpectedly shortened due to my husband’s heart issues and surgery. This year, I’ll be fully stepping away from work and my phone to focus on spending uninterrupted time with my family.

If your pup will need grooming before or after these closures, please book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Thank you all so much for your understanding and continued support — I truly appreciate each and every one of you!
