Bull breeding soundness exams are offered by North Simcoe - Dr Elri was very dedicated in making sure this guy got a passing score.

Make sure your bull is ready for the ladies (or the sales) and have him tested! This test includes a comprehensive exam physically by our large animal veterinarian, as well as an on-farm assessment of his swimmers by our veterinary technicians.

Give the clinic a call, text or email to schedule a visit.

When you bring your kitty to the clinic, are you stressed?
Your cat might be stressed too!
Clinics are scary places for cats; full of smells and people and tiny boxes for transport.

There are many ways we can help alleviate our cat stress. One way is letting our cats get a feel for the exam room and be examined where they feel most comfortable - some cats prefer their carrier, so we can open the top and examine them inside. Other cats might prefer to hang out on our window ledge, or lounge in our sinks!

Whatever way suits the cat is the most successful way to get a full physical exam performed - a stressed cat can make exams impossible as they can lash out in fear, or become too tense for proper exams.

If you have a stressed out cat, you can ask our reception ahead of time for some tips to help yours, and your cat's experience easier.

Foaling season is coming!

Do you have your mare kit ready to go?
Remember most mares require security and privacy for foaling to progress - use cameras and foal alarms to avoid constantly checking in and making her uncomfortable.

Most mares foal themselves without issue, and our vets get the fun job of new foal checks the next day, like Dr Zoey here.

If the sac hasn't broken on the foal, please do so to allow your foal to breathe!
A foal should stand within one hour.
A foal should nurse within two hours.
A mare should pass her afterbirth within three hours.

Foaling complications are considered an URGENT emergency - our veterinarians will likely talk to you on the phone while driving in order to give foals the best chance of survival!

Unlike cattle, retained afterbirths in horses is an emergency! Call our veterinarians if your mare has retained.

From cattle to kitties, large and small, we are able to help so many amazing animals at our clinics.

We are proud to work for an independent practice who encourages growth and comraderie.

Our warmest welcomes to Dr Carleigh Cathcart, who has joined our clinics full time -

Dr Carleigh graduated from OVC and has been working in Southern Ontario for the last few years - we're so glad she's decided the north is the place to be!

Dr Carleigh joins us as a mixed practice vet; whether you have a dog, cat, horse, ruminant or pocket pet, you'll be sure to run into Dr Carleigh at both our North Simcoe and Midland clinics.

This spring weather means melting snow, longer days, and TICKS.

Ticks are in our area and emerge when the temperature stays above 0C. While some ticks are harmless, others transmit serious diseases like Lyme Disease - this can affect all animals, including ourselves!

Ticks are very small when they first attach and extremely difficult to find in your dog's coat, unless they attach in any obvious spot.
The best way to protect your animal is through prevention!

Talk to us about the various types of tick prevention available - we have topical - best for animals with flea allergies, and outdoor cats; oral - best for swimmers; and even a vet-administered injection - best for forgetful owners.

Happy Easter to all our clients and friends from North Simcoe and Midland Vets!

Some of our Midland pets were channelling their inner bunny while at the clinic this week, while also remembering their safety checklist for the Easter season:

Avoid Lilies, especially around CATS.
Chocolate is for humans, not for DOGS.
An Easter treat is good, but avoid fatty foods which might trigger gastric diseases.

This International Women's Day, we want to celebrate our co-owner, Dr Edith Haberfellner!

Dr Edie not only is the co-owner of our two independent practices, she also continues to see patients in both clinics during the week.

Dr Edie is always ready to lend a hand on tricky cases our other vets may have. She is a dedicated veterinarian who loves her clients and her patients and often is seen well outside her clinic hours researching cases; being an experienced vet does not stop her from constantly learning about new things in our field and helping our staff to understand and implement them.

Dr Edie does all this with a caring warmth and sunny attitude - we are all so grateful to work for such a genuine person and powerful woman!
