FIRE C***R WORKSHOP POSTPONED - we are sorry to announce our Fire C***r workshop on Sunday will be postponed to a TBA date in November. Please stay tuned!

Enjoy expert, hands-on instruction from Anne Richmond inside our farm's seed house where you will get a behind the scenes look into our operations. Refreshments and a Metchosin Farm signature snack will be provided featuring our very own crops.

Every workshop will include all required materials and tools PLUS all the additional materials you will need to create another workshop product at home! We belive that practice makes permanent, and the best way to solidify the new skills and knowledge you have learned is to do it again on your own. Or even better, teach your friends and family!

We have been sold out of this popular watermelon for a little while and it's easy to see why! These compact, delicious, and reliable little melons are the perfect variety for growing in our northern climates.

Our favourite part about growing these is we get to eat them after we save the seeds!

Pomodoro Grosso di Rotonda tomatoes are an italian heirloom we grew this year! We are both amazed by the flavour, texture, and size of this variety, but also have a dilema on our hands because of the low seed count inside.

One of our missions here at the farm is to preserve seed varieties that might otherwise be lost, and help reintroduce more diversity into our food systems. However, this is of course is also in conflict with the realities and costs of running a small business! Therefore we also hope to educate and inspire home gardeners to save their own seeds at home too, to save money and also save more plant varieties from being lost.

We will be saving all our Grosso seeds, and we will plan something special to do with them to share this incredible tomato with Canadian gardeners.

Most of the time we only see flax in its processed form: as seeds or as linen! But did you know it is a beautiful plant as well? While we wait for the seeds to mature, we get to enjoy the whimsical blue flowers (and so do the bees!)

We are starting to thresh our mature crops while more are growing in the field!

First up are chives, which only require some light tapping to release the seeds from the plant. Threshing is just the first step in getting these seeds ready to package. Next we will have to "clean" them and separate the seeds from the chaff (leftover plant material).

With the warm weather we have been experiencing on Vancouver Island we are already harvesting and preparing some early crops! Our native Red Elderberry is one of the first things we are threshing.

Red Elderberry is a beautiful shrub with stunning flowers and red berries that are great for attracting pollinators and birds to your home. Here Fiona demonstrates how we get the seeds from each of those bright red fruits!

Our 2026 growing season is in full swing! How many plants do you recognize?

We already have over 50 varieties growing for our seeds or dormant roots and tubers (and won't be able to resist adding a few more before the season is over). We only sell what we grow ourselves, guaranteeing all our products are 100% organic and 100% Canadian! Happy 2026 gardening!
