Fetch grooming and boutique it's getting really hot out and wants you all to keep your fur baby's cool and safe here's a few tips for the summer 1. Hydration is Key:
Plenty of water:
Always make sure your dog has access to fresh, cool water throughout the day.
Frozen treats:
Offer frozen treats like ice cubes, frozen Kongs, or dog-safe ice pops to encourage water intake and cool them down.
2. Shade and Cool Spaces:
Indoors:
Keep your dog indoors during the hottest parts of the day and consider the coolest room in the house, like a basement or area with good air circulation.
Outdoors:
Provide shade outdoors with canopies, shade cloths, or elevated pet cots. You can also create a cooling spot by placing ice in the bottom of a raised bed.
Elevated beds:
Consider using elevated beds or pet cots to improve air circulation and cooling.
3. Other Cooling Methods:
Fans:
Place a fan in a room where your dog spends a lot of time to create airflow and cool them down.
Cooling mats and coats:
Use cooling mats, coats, or collars to provide an additional layer of cooling comfort.
Paddling pool:
If your dog enjoys swimming, a paddling pool can provide a refreshing way to cool off.
Grooming:
Keep your dog's coat clean and well-groomed to help with heat regulation.
Weight management:
Keeping your dog at a healthy weight can reduce the strain on their body during hot weather.
4. Important Considerations:
Avoid exercise during the hottest parts of the day: Opt for early morning or late evening walks when it's cooler.
Be mindful of pavement temperatures: Pavements can become very hot and can burn your dog's paws.
Never leave your dog in a car: Cars can heat up very quickly, even with windows slightly open.
Be aware of signs of overheating: Excessive panting, drooling, or lethargy can indicate overheating, so seek veterinary attention promptly.
