Friendly reminder that as we prepare to transition over to city services, we will be closed this weekend! Starting next week, all inquires including intakes and animal questions, should be directed to the Animal Pound Services - Medicine Hat (APS) page.

Please note with the switch over to a new system, some information may not carry over. If you have submitted an application for an animal, you may need to reapply on the APS page once it is live. More updates will be shared on the APS page soon.

Thank you for all of the support you’ve shown over the years. Medicine Hat has a deeply caring community, especially when it comes to animals, and we are proud to be apart of it. We hope you will continue to support the work that we do, with the same dedicated animal care staff, just under new leadership.

💙💙Finally, thank YOU to every single family, home, person who has given one of our animals a place. Whether through temporary foster or forever home, each and every one of you have made a real difference in the lives we are able to help. 💙💙

We’d love to celebrate this community, please share pictures and updates of your APARC fosters or adoptees in the comments! Let’s fill this post with happy faces and good memories 🐶

Hello everyone! As we prepare to transition to new management on June 8th, we want to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who supported the shelter throughout APARC's years of dedication and service.

While leadership is changing, our mission remains the same. We will still be here to provide impoundment services and helping animals find their forever homes, with the same dedicated staff you know and trust.

This new page will now serve as the official source for all shelter updates, including impoundments and adoptable animals, beginning June 8th. Our current page will no longer be active after that date, so please be sure to follow this new page to stay updated.

We're excited to begin this new chapter, and even more excited to continue serving this incredible community with your on going support. Stay tuned, and thank you for being apart of this journey! ❤️🐾

*We are so overwhelmed with applications for Cherry! We are very excited to start working through everyone's interest in her, and hope she finds her perfect match! In the meantime, we'll no longer be accepting applications. Thank you all for your support and help!*

It appears that we've celebrated prematurely, as Cherry was returned once again in less than 24 hours. Due to not fault of her own, we are working hard to find her a permanent forever home.

We're trying our best to keep spirits up for Cherry, as she's beginning to really feel her time her in shelter. After almost 10 applications, multiple meet and greets, and two chances at a forever home, she's feeling discouraged. She always works her hardest to show everyone how funny, affectionate, outgoing, and playful she is, and she's continually met with no shows and changed minds.

Cherry came into shelter at only 2 months old, a desirable age for people looking to adopt. Her sister, Blossom, was adopted quickly and is flourishing in her new home, and Cherry's been patiently waiting since their departure.

Cherry is an active young pup. Her favourite activity is definitely playing, she can make a toy out of anything! While her energy and enthusiasm can be a bit much at first, she settles down quickly into a loving and affectionate dog. Cherry will need an adopter who's willing to teach her the ropes and her manners, as she's never in her life experienced living in a home long term. Though this shouldn't be too difficult of a task, as Cherry is very intelligent and food motivated!

Cherry does excellent with other dogs, and would love a playmate to help her burn some energy off. She also gets along well with cats with a slow introduction. Cherry can adapt to any home that's willing to give her the time and dedication she deserves.

If you're willing to finally give Cherry her chance, please fill out an application here https://adopt.aparc.ca/adoptable_dogs_list.php and call the shelter at 403-487-5671!

We've had incredible success finding loving forever homes for all of our currently available dogs, and we couldn't be more thrilled! The only thing that would make this moment truly perfect is if we could find a home for our longest-standing resident and last available adoptable dog, the wonderful Missy.

Missy holds a special place in all of our hearts. She's a staff favourite, and it’s easy to see why. After spending seven and a half months in the shelter, we know it’s time for her to trade in her kennel for a cozy couch and a family to call her own. Despite our tireless efforts to promote her, Missy’s perfect match just hasn’t come along yet, but we’re hopeful.

Missy is shy when meeting new people, which is why we want to share the version of Missy we know and love. Once she warms up, she’s full of personality. Playful, confident, and incredibly affectionate. She just needs a bit of extra time, space, and love to get there.

When first meeting Missy, she may be hesitant and prefer to keep her distance. Because of this, she’ll need multiple meet-and-greets to help her feel safe and ensure a smooth transition into her new home.

Her ideal home would be one without other pets. While she’s shown she can befriend dogs her size or larger, we believe she’ll thrive best as the only pet. Due to her prey drive and nervousness, homes with small dogs, cats, or young children wouldn’t be the right fit.

That said, Missy has so much love to give. She adores leisurely walks, basking in the sun on a cozy blanket, and snuggling up with her favourite staff members. One of her quirkiest and most endearing habits is tossing her toys into the air, then pouncing after them with glee.

Missy’s been waiting a long time for the right person to see her for who she truly is. Could that person be you?

If you're interested in adopting Missy, please follow this link to put in an application https://adopt.aparc.ca/adoptable_dogs_list.php and call the shelter at 403-487-5671!
