LATEST UPDATE ON TULA:
Tula’s oncology report came back and I forgot to update this post. Apparently she is a sick little girl although right now you would never know it. The vet gave her 8-12 weeks to live without treatment. We are at 6 weeks post surgery. Chemotherapy might have given her a couple of extra months but I decided against it as I really just want to enjoy this time that I have left with her while she feels well and is not sick from chemo. She is happy and appears healthy, is still eating well and going for lots of walks and just enjoying life with us. My heart is breaking every day because I know that any day she could wake up ill again once/if the cancer metastasizes but I am praying that it hasn’t spread and she will last a while longer. If she does, you will find us swimming in the Mira together this summer. Yes, she is just a pet but she is my special girl. Prayers appreciated. 💔

Yesterday I had to take my beautiful Tula to the vet. She woke up “off” and didn’t even get off her bed to greet me. I knew right away something was wrong. It was a long day and after many hours in two separate vet clinics we had to leave her there to have surgery today. They think she has cancer and the only way to be sure is to remove her spleen which has a mass on it. If it’s not cancer she will be ok. If it is then she doesn’t have much time left. Please pray that the mass they found is benign. I am still in shock and today I am gutted. I would really appreciate your prayers. I had so hoped to have her for a few more summers of dockdiving and enjoying the beach with the kids. Tula was my first breeding dog and retired now. She has some beautiful, well loved pups out there. She is only eight so this is a big shock. She is my forever dog.

UPDATE: Tula had her surgery this afternoon. They removed her spleen and the surgeon said everything else looked really good. Her belly seems OK and her vitals are all very good tonight. She is in the ICU unit being monitored with somebody there with her all night. Now we wait for the pathology report on the mass that was on her spleen. It will be 6 to 10 days before we know. If the tumour is benign, we should be in the clear. If not, then we have some tough days ahead and we’ll have to take one day at a time. I have cried a river in the past 24 hours but I have had some encouraging reports from people who have gone through this and their dogs have survived so I am hoping that will be what happens with Tula.
I am overwhelmed by all of the well wishes and prayers for Tula and us today. So many of you have my puppies, are breeder friends or old friends, people who have cared for my dogs…please know that it means so much to hear from each one of you. We are not out of the woods yet but I am hopefully optimistic tonight.
UPDATE: Sunday, Feb 9
Tula came home yesterday. She is happy to be with us and we are pretty happy to have her back! She is still fairly heavily medicated so she is calm and sleeping lots. This is necessary to allow her incision to heal. We hope to hear the biopsy results by the end of next week. I will update here once we have the results back. Thanks everyone for your concern!
