✨The weekend she's been waiting for has arrived after two months at KP !!!! Our former spice queen really warmed up to be an absolute love bug during her time with us , she could always be found cuddled up with her roomies and snoozing in the sun. We sure will miss Pomegranate but know she's in the very best place to spend the rest of her days !!! A big thank you to her new family for choosing her for adoption.

✨A day late but a dollar over , gather around for the month end update the marks us somehow making it through the first half of 2026 !!!!

✨You know we love sharing these updates with you , as they are a testatment to the hard work and dedication that goes into running a cat shelter day in and out. It's a labour of love and we pour every spare bit of love we have in us back into all of the cats who cross our threshold !!!

✨In May we took in a number of badly injured strays that will suffer permanent damage from the injuries they sustained. These are the cats that are the most at risk and likely have never experienced the warmth and luxury of regular meals and a safe place to call their own... We took in 15 strays , almost half of our total ins for the month. Surrender requests are continuing to climb , and things aren't getting easier. It's so sad to see our surrender waitlist continue to grow , some days we are seeing 7-10 surrender requests per day.

✨In total , we took in 39 cats in need for the month of May. On the flippity flop , 40 cats left our care , which means the streak of having more outs than ins has barely squeezed by for yet another month !!! We lost 2 cats (Gwithian and Havarti) from loving permanent foster homes , and one of our shelter residents Sally who sadly passed away due to kidney failure.

✨We saw some great adoptions of cats who truly needed it like our spicy lady Tina of Olay , the timid brothers French Onion and Beef Stew, spicy long term resident Grilled Cheese and many more. We are so grateful to everyone who opened their hearts and homes to a kitty (or two) in need this month , and helps us to be able to take in more cats in need.

✨And finally , the biggest thank you to our volunteers who endlessly clean , scoop litter , feed , brush , play , and do everything in their power to give the KP cats a sense of family while they await their furrever. We are so grateful for our amazing team of volunteers , none of what we do would be possible without them.

✨And thank you to our supporters who share adoptable cat posts , spread the word to friends and family , and come visit the cats on the weekends !!

🖤A monumental adoption for the lovely Dayla after 6 months in KP care !!!!!!! Our spicy hyperthyroid senior was choosy with who she opened her heart to , and had a number of health issues that left her unavailable for adoption for some time. All of that is now in the past and her time has finally come and we couldn't be more pleased. A big thanks to her new adopter for taking a chance on a senior !!!

🏡15 year old Brontosaurus was found as a sick stray only a few short weeks ago. Who would have thought this senior shy black panther would have such a quick stay!!! We are of course thrilled for her , and rumour has it she's already settling into her new home well. We are so grateful to her adopter for giving a senior kitty the second chance they needed.

Wanted to take a minute to share about our permanent foster program as we have tons of kitties eligible at this time !!! Ranging from FIV to hyperthyroid , the idea is to help these cats get adopted despite their conditions and remove barriers with vet care. Katie's Place covers all medical bills for these cats on the condition that they are brought to our vets in Maple Ridge , and are given a lifelong home in return.

Only cats with unique needs are eligible.

💚Since we have gained a bunch of new friends on this page since we last talked about the permanent foster program , I thought what better time is there to shine the light back on what it’s all about!!

💕🐈‍⬛At Katie’s Place we take in a number of cats with special needs such as cats with diabetes, hyperthyroidism, cerebellar hyperplasia and more.

🥰One of our guiding principles at Katie’s Place is that all life is valuable, regardless of their age, looks or medical status. We believe that senior and special needs cats deserve furrever homes too !!! In an effort to help them find those homes we offer the opportunity for them to be permanently fostered out. This means that we cover medical expenses related to the cat’s care, with the condition that they are brought to our vets.

🏡Our permanent foster cats go to carefully vetted homes where they will get the care and attention they need!! Not all of our cats are eligible for this program. If you are an experienced cat owner with love to give, feel free to reach out and enquire about some of our permanent foster eligible cats.

🏡Don't be fooled by his slightly disgruntled expression , our new arrival Michael Strayhan is an absolute loverboy with a wonderful disposition !! If you're looking for a friendly boy with cheeks almost has big as his heart , then look no further because Strayhan is THE man.

🐾Estimated to be about 1 year old , Michael Strayhan was (you guessed it) a former unfixed stray who found his way to Katie's Place last month !!! Judging by his signature spots and chattyyyyyyy nature we suspect there may be a little bit of bengal in him, but otherwise his history is a mystery. He still has some old battle wounds on his little nose , as we know life on the streets ain't exactly sunshine and roses for these tomcats.

🎶While he was initially quite scared and reserved , he has now opened up to us in full capacity and set about making both feline and human friends at the shelter. He is beloved by all who meet him , and frankly what's not to love ??? Mr Strayhan is the life of party, and he's ready to be the centre of your world. He is super sweet and affectionate, and loves talking with anyone who will engage about how their day was. A social butterfly at its finest , we're hoping Michael Strayhan will win someone over and have a relatively short stay with us (although we love having him!!).

💙He gets along great with other cats and would do well as a family cat in a home with children. He's a gentle giant who wouldn't hurt a fly , and to top it all off he has great litterbox manners too !!

✨Not necessarily a night and day transformation , but wanted to provide a quick update as many of you have wondered how he's doing !!!

✨We are seeing some slow and steady improvements with our handsome boy Luciaretti , and we're very proud of how brave he's being. He's had a rough go having to have another dental surgery and struggling with a cold in the last week , but he takes his medicine like a champ and eats like nobodies business.

✨Is he a lapcat yet ? Nope. Is he an affectionate and sociable cat ? Noooooope. But like we said before , rescue is a journey and we're in it for all of the days it may take. There's a softie laying wait under that tough exterior , we just know it !!!

✨Thank you to everyone who's checked in on him and offered kind words of support on his journey. He's watching me as I write this and we know he appreciates the love you've all shown him so far ❤️

😒Life is not kind to stray cats , especially unfixed males who tend to be chased away and treated with disdain while being seen as problematic. Luckily for Emilio , he stumbled into the right yard and found a family that sought to find him help , rather than turn him away to the coyotes !!!! So we'll start off with a big thank you to them for not turning their back on Emilio , and bringing him to Katie's Place for a second chance.

❤️This 2/3 year old stud came in with some gnarly injuries , all of which were promptly addressed to make him feel better. He had an infected bite likely from a predator , part of his left ear had been ripped off , and he had suffered unknown trauma to one of his eyes leaving him mostly blind in that eye. A rough go for a boy who's nothing but sweet !!! His ear is healing but he will likely remain blind in his one eye for life. But that doesn't seem to slow him down at all and he has explored his room with gusto and made himself at home.

✨Despite all of these factors working to bring him down , Emilio is a really sweet and mellow boy who's even more affectionate now that he's been neutered. He has gladly warmed up to the finer things and softer blankies in life , and is very happy to be safely inside now. He may not be "traditionally pretty" and we're fully aware he looks quite rough around the edges. But we know if you meet Emilio you will see the beauty in him just like we have.

🏡Emilio would love a calm home that has lots of cozy napping spots. He is an independent boy who doesn't need 24/7 love , but he's happy to receive attention when you're willing and able. He would do well with older calm children who respect his space and aren't too rowdy , relaxation is the priority for Emilio !!! His litterbox habits are already great , and he seems unbothered by his feline room mates.

❤️And the very best news for 19 year old Myrtle !!!! Defying all the odds as a very senior black panther , our leading lady had found a permanent foster to spend the rest of her days being showered with love. A massive thank you to Myrtle's new family who saw her story and decided to give her this amazing opportunity to live out her best retirement years peacefully away from the hustle bustle of the shelter.
