From a young age I have always been involved with animals big and small. As a born and raised farm girl I was known for my love and knowledge of horses, from raising foals to coaching clients, to training and competing multiple successful horses over the years as a hunter/jumper.
My love of dog grooming was sparked as a bather with Petsmart, and that love only grew as I found my place in the grooming world.
I’ve been with the deTails family for just a couple years but I’ve truly found my passion here in Gananoque.
From developing relationships with clients and their pets, to my first grooming competition. I’m so grateful to Chantel and the deTails crew for welcoming me, and giving me so many opportunities.
As for my favorite breeds to groom?
Im known for loving Doodles and Poodles! But honestly I love having such a variety of dogs big and small to have fun with and try new things.
I can’t wait to see all your faces and happy wagging tails ❤️

Only a week before the Tooth Fairies are here…. Also known as APL - Cosmetic Teeth Cleaning & Treats!!

Pictured here are two great examples of the amazing work that they do. I know Carbon and Tato were feeling so much better after their visit. But the best part, their breath was so much better!! They totally made our pooches ready to smooch 😘

Darby

My love for animals began earlier than I can remember. Domesticated pets and their care have always been a focus and passion of mine!

Darby began her professional work in the pet care industry 10 years ago. Beginning as a kennel attendant, she quickly moved into the role of certified Pet Trainer. Darby worked as a full-time trainer for 3 years before gradually transitioning into private pet care work, which included boarding, dog walking and basic obedience training.

She began working to expand her skills in the area of professional pet grooming in 2022 when she started her job as a bather at deTails Dog Grooming. Darby quickly proved herself capable and eager to learn how to groom. She has mastered the proper techniques for bathing and drying a wide variety of dog breeds, preparing them for the grooming to follow based on both their dispositions and coats. Last year she moved into the role of apprentice groomer, with Chantel and Jess at deTails Mallorytown location. She works every day on expanding her skills and talents, working with your beloved pets.

At home she has Hagrid the Mastiff, Arwen the Cattle Dog/Border Collie mix and then Bruce and Hamish the cats!

Brittany

I worked as a cook all my life until COVID came around and the world stopped. After spending so much time outside of that environment and more time at home with my pets, I thought I'd go after my dream of working with animals. I graduated with distinction from the St. Lawrence Veterinary Assistant program here in Kingston with a new interest in grooming having had the privilege of having Chantel Hunt as the program's grooming instructor. I have been able to call deTails my family for almost 4 years now while I am always learning and growing to be able to best serve our four-legged family members skin and coat needs ! While having an affinity for cats, I absolutely love a hand scissored Pomeranian!

Leslie graduated from the veterinary assistant program at St. Lawrence College in 2012 and started grooming shortly after graduating. This Fall marks 13 years she has had a grooming shear in her hand. She has been blessed and lucky enough to have groomed a pup their entire doggy life.
She has been with the deTails family for 5 years now. Taking last year off to welcome her little boy. She has always had a big interest in grooming the larger dogs, but all sizes and breeds are welcomed. She currently works full-time at our Gananoque location but has been doing 1 or 2 days a week at our Mallorytown location as well.
Outside of grooming she lives a busy life with her husband, son and two step boys. She also does volunteer work for Leeds 1000 Island Fire Services with her Dalmatian, Barney!

Jessica graduated from the Veterinary Assistant program at St. Lawrence College in 2016 and started at deTails as a Co-op student to finish her program. As of June, she has been a dedicated employee and groomer at deTails Dog Grooming for 9 years.
She spends her off time with her husband Brandon, dog Tato and Toonie the cat. Many of you know Tato as our in house door bell, emotional support for stressed and nervous dogs, and comedic relief for the girls at the Mallorytown location.

Jess grew up on a local beef farm here in Mallorytown where she still helps out and is always surrounded by animals. On the farm they raise Charolais cattle and also her Quarter Horse, Dunnkin. In the future, her and her husband hope to be able to build a house on the Haffie family farm.

She loves all breeds and just can’t pick a favourite. Every dog that comes in the door is loved and treated like they are her own. Always making sure they are comfortable and ensuring they have the best experience possible. She does specialize in difficult nail trims and has rehabbed many dogs who were deemed unsafe by others. Jess has also participated in grooming competitions and came in 3rd place Novice Division for Sporting in October at the Ottawa show.

If you have been into the Mallorytown salon or called to make an appointment, odds are you have spoken with Jess. She is a jack of all trades, between grooming, answering phones, booking appointments and being Mrs. Fix it when needed in the shop.
