🐾 Client Spotlight – Amanda & Todd 🐾

Meet Todd — a bright, athletic Aussie/Border Collie mix who’s been on an incredible journey toward confidence and balance with his owner, Amanda.

Todd has always been full of energy and heart, but after a tough start to the year — including recovering from meningitis and long periods of reduced activity — he began showing signs of fear-based reactivity toward people, especially men. Though he’s always had a fantastic off-leash recall, the world felt a little overwhelming to him at times. On leash, Todd would pull hard to avoid strangers or occasionally lunge when he felt trapped or uncertain.

Together, Amanda and Todd committed to a full training program through Valley Canine Training, focusing on rebuilding confidence, communication, and calmness in real-world environments. Their lessons included everything from leash handling and proper greetings to socialization work, confidence-building activities, and structured obedience routines. Todd learned how to channel his energy through tasks like heel, place, leave it, and watch me, and he’s made amazing progress in his ability to stay calm and focused — even in the presence of people that once made him uneasy.

With consistent leadership, structure, and patience, Amanda has helped Todd find balance again. His transformation has been incredible to witness — he’s now able to walk past people calmly, settle confidently on place during door greetings, and enjoy adventures with much less stress and reactivity. 🐕✨

Todd’s story is a perfect reminder that confidence is built through trust — and that with the right plan and guidance, even the most sensitive dogs can thrive.

✨ Client Success Story – Tamara, Mike & Ande ✨

We’d like to celebrate the incredible progress Tamara and her 4-year-old Shepherd, Ande, have made through their private training program with Valley Canine Training! 🐾

From the very beginning, Ande’s journey has been one of courage and resilience. As a puppy, she showed signs of anxiety and sensitivity — fearful of noises, people, and new environments. Health challenges and allergies only added to her stress, and she became reactive toward people and dogs, especially when on leash. Despite these early struggles, Ande is an intelligent, loving, and eager-to-learn dog who truly wants to connect and understand the world around her.

Through a structured and supportive training program, Tamara and Ande have been working on rebuilding confidence, focus, and trust. Together, they’ve practiced skills like heel work, calm greetings, impulse control, “place,” door manners, and sound desensitization, while also building emotional regulation through relaxation exercises and daily routines. We’ve focused on helping Ande disengage from triggers, reduce leash reactivity, and find calmness in high-excitement moments like guest arrivals or walks in new environments.

It’s been amazing watching Ande’s transformation — she’s showing more self-control, faster recovery after stress, and a growing ability to focus on her handler rather than her fears. Tamara has been incredibly patient, consistent, and compassionate, putting in the time and dedication it takes to guide a sensitive dog toward balance and confidence. 💛

This kind of progress comes from teamwork, understanding, and daily commitment. We’re so proud of everything this pair has achieved and can’t wait to see Ande continue to blossom as she gains confidence in the world around her! 🌿🐕

🌟 Ellies Transformation!

When Ellie first started training, she was a sensitive and anxious girl who struggled with reactivity and confidence. Her family had adopted her from the SPCA when she was just three months old, and while she grew up loved and well cared for, her shepherd mix genetics came with big emotions and protective instincts. Over time, she became reactive on walks—especially around her neighborhood and the dog park gate—and was nervous around guests, loud noises, and sudden movements. She wanted to be brave but often felt unsure, which showed up as barking, growling, and flinching at everyday things.

Through a customized training program that combined private lessons, real-life practice, and group classes, Ellie learned how to feel calm and confident in her environment. We focused on structured obedience (like Heel, Place, and Stay), impulse control with distractions, and reliable e-collar recall to give her freedom with structure. Inside the home, we worked on door manners, reducing window barking, and helping Ellie relax when guests arrived. Out on walks, her heel became calm and focused, and her reactivity toward other dogs started melting away as her confidence grew.

By the end of her program, Ellie was a completely different dog—more relaxed, social, and responsive to her handler. She can now enjoy off-leash time with reliable recall, stay composed when visitors arrive, and calmly observe the world without feeling the need to react. Watching her transformation has been such a rewarding journey; her family’s dedication, consistency, and patience made all the difference. Ellie’s story is a perfect reminder that with the right guidance and commitment, even anxious or reactive dogs can learn to feel confident, balanced, and happy in their world.

🎃 Halloween Canine Club Fun! 👻

What an incredible time we had at our Halloween-themed Canine Club Class this weekend! 🧡🐾

From the Leave-It Pumpkin Test to the Zombie Walk Obstacle Course and monster mash musical chairs, every dog and handler brought amazing energy, focus, and festive spirit. It was such a joy seeing everyone laughing, cheering each other on, and working as a team through each spooky challenge!

The Costume Contest Show was a total highlight — so many creative and adorable outfits, and the tricks were just as impressive! 🧛‍♀️✨

This class was extra special for me, as it was my last Canine Club before I head off on maternity leave. 💕 I’ll be taking a break until summer 2026, but I’m so grateful to have ended the year with such a wonderful group of dogs and handlers. Thank you all for your support, laughs, and dedication — you’ve made this season unforgettable!

Wishing everyone a cozy, training-filled fall — and I can’t wait to see you all again next year! 🐶💜

🌟 Client Success Story: Shelby & Casey 🌟

When Casey, a 2-year-old Australian Shepherd, first started training, she was struggling with reactivity—especially around new dogs and on leash. She had great obedience and house manners but needed more control and confidence during social situations and around distractions like livestock and wildlife. Our goal with Shelby and Casey was to build reliable off-leash control, reduce reactivity, and create calm coexistence with their three Jack Russells at home.

Through consistent e-collar training, structured recall work, muzzle conditioning, and controlled dog-dog interactions, Casey learned to think before reacting and make calm, confident choices. We strengthened her recall across different environments, worked on gentle treat-taking and obedience foundations, and developed routines for peaceful evenings with all four dogs together. Today, Casey is no longer reactive—she’s calm, responsive, and reliable off-leash, even around chickens and other high distractions. Shelby’s dedication and consistency made all the difference, and the transformation in their teamwork has been incredible to watch! 💪🐾

🌸 Cecelta and Tim welcomed Blossom into their home in September 2024 with hearts full of hope. Blossom, nearly 3 years old, had lived an unimaginable early life in South Korea: born on the streets, and then captured alongside her brother, then held in cages at a facility destined for dogs raised for the dog-meat industry there. After being fostered in Korea, she was flown to Canada via rescue efforts and entrusted to her loving family on their beautiful 5-acre property — but the challenges were real. Blossom arrived anxious, shy, unaccustomed to cars, or being handled by people, or many new experiences, and with many health issues from years of living on the streets just surviving.

From the start, we designed a training program at Valley Canine Training that honoured Blossom’s past and built for her future. The lessons were comprehensive: we opened with foundational calmness and trust-work — sit on the leash to encourage relaxation, calming massage, and early watch me and leave it commands to rebuild her focus and sense of safety. Then we gradually layered in more structure: heel work, reliable recall using the e-collar as a communication tool, place command at home, perimeter boundary training for their property, and dog-to-dog and people exposures in a controlled manner. We also addressed specific triggers like loud noises, leash drops, and unfamiliar vehicles, always moving at Blossom’s pace, recognising her resilience and sensitivity.

Today, Blossom is a different dog. She walks with more confidence, recalls reliably even off-leash in high distractions, and greets guests and dogs with far more calm than when she first arrived. She still loves her bed, adores her people, and has found a safe space to stretch her spirit — no longer trapped by fear or the past circumstances of her rescue story. Cecelta and Tim’s patience, consistency and love have been central to this breakthrough. Their commitment to each homework session, the online training videos, and regular practice of all the details built a foundation that covers “everything” in behavioural terms: from focus and obedience to emotional regulation, environment management, socialisation and household manners.

We are so proud to reflect on this journey with them — a rescue dog from a traumatic background transformed into a confident, connected companion. Huge congratulations to Cecelta and Tim for stepping up for Blossom, for investing the time, energy and heart into helping her heal and thrive. This kind of life-change is real proof that with the right tools, support and dedication, dogs from almost any starting point can grow into their best selves. 🌟

🐦 Bird Dog Training with Makaila & Allen! 🐾

We had such a fun and productive lesson working on Allen’s bird hunting foundation! Today’s focus was all about steadiness, control, and building the key skills that make a great bird dog — from reliable retrieves to holding position through distraction. We started by strengthening Allen’s retrieval to hand and calm hold/stay while introducing the cap gun for gunfire proofing. Allen did amazing staying steady through the sound and learned that the “shot” doesn’t mean go — it means hold until released!

We then moved into flushing and point work, practicing controlled searches through cover, rewarding him for holding his position during the flush, and pairing all of this with the mock shot. By the end, Allen was confidently quartering the field, staying steady to the shot, and delivering his toy perfectly to hand. It was such a fun session watching his drive and focus come together — he’s well on his way to becoming a reliable and steady bird dog! 🦆👏

🎓 Client Success Story – Rylan & Lenny

Congratulations to Rylan and Lenny on successfully completing their full private training program with Valley Canine Training! 🐾 Lenny, a sweet and sensitive Mini Poodle mix, started her journey showing signs of fear and reactivity — especially toward men, other dogs, and new environments. Her early puppyhood experiences, including being bitten by another dog, left her unsure and anxious in many real-world situations. She also struggled with challenges like resource guarding, chewing, and freezing when faced with things that scared her.

Over the course of our program, Rylan and Lenny worked through a comprehensive training plan designed to strengthen confidence, focus, and communication. Together we tackled leash reactivity, fear-based responses, recall reliability, calm door manners, and socialization with both dogs and people. Lenny learned valuable obedience and lifestyle commands like Heel, Place, Leave It, Wait, and Watch Me, helping her navigate daily life with structure and confidence. We also incorporated desensitization to new environments, muzzle conditioning for safety and comfort, and relaxation exercises to help her regulate her nervous system and recover from stress more easily.

By focusing on calm leadership, consistent structure, and positive exposure, Rylan helped Lenny transform from a nervous, reactive dog into a more confident, balanced, and trusting companion. It’s been incredible watching her confidence grow — she now handles greetings, new environments, and distractions with far more calmness and self-control. 💛

Huge congratulations to Rylan for dedicating the time, patience, and love it takes to guide a sensitive dog through behavioral change. This type of progress doesn’t happen overnight — it’s the result of consistency, understanding, and teamwork. We’re so proud of everything you’ve accomplished and can’t wait to see Lenny continue to thrive in your adventures together! 🐶✨
