Helping Your Dog Handle Fireworks

As the clock approaches midnight on New Year’s Eve, the air fills with excitement and anticipation.

For many, it’s a time of celebration with friends and family, marked by dazzling fireworks lighting up the night sky. But while we may revel in the festive atmosphere, some dogs experience a very different reality.

Fireworks can be a source of anxiety and fear for many dogs, and as passionate trainer at Valley Canine Training, I understand the importance of preparing our dogs for new years fireworks.

🚨 EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY: INTAKE FREEZE 🚨

This is the post we never wanted to write. 💔

2026 has already brought several large medical cases through our doors. Surgeries. Emergencies. Ongoing treatments.
And while we would do it all again for them… the reality is this:

💔 We are currently unable to say yes to new dogs coming into the rescue at this time.

Our veterinary bills have exceeded what we can sustain, and we must look to raise a minimum of $30,000 before we can begin accepting dogs again.

At this time, we don’t have a clear timeline for when we’ll be able to start saying yes again. We’re working hard to raise the funds needed so we can continue doing the work we love.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

✔️Become a monthly donor (even $20/month creates stability)
✔️Make a one-time donation to help the dogs
✔️Return your bottles to any Return-It Express Depot (or Chasers in Vernon)
✔️Collect and submit us your receipts from Nature’s Fair, we receive a 3% donation return
✔️Buy chocolates for our purdys fundraiser!
✔️Challenge your workplace, friends, or local business to match donations
✔️Inquire with us on how you can help fundraiser. We are always looking for new connections.

This decision has been incredibly difficult, and it does not reflect a loss of passion in any way.

If anything, it reflects just how deeply we care. We will not overextend ourselves at the expense of the dogs who are already relying on us.

We believe in responsible rescue.
We stand by the commitments we’ve made to the dogs in our care.
And with your support, we will be able to say yes again and get back to rescuing more dogs. 💛

If your dog won’t come when called — especially outside — I’ve started organizing all of my recall training videos in one place.

From teaching your dog their name, to long line foundations, to proper e-collar setup — it’s all there.

If off-leash freedom is your goal, this is where to start:

Hi 👋 I’m Victoria, the trainer behind Valley Canine Training.

I help dog owners build calm, reliable dogs they can actually trust — especially with recall, manners, and real-world distractions.

Most recall issues aren’t about stubborn dogs. They’re about rushed foundations and unclear communication.

If you’re struggling with recall, I’ve created a free foundations workbook to help you figure out what’s missing before off-leash training.

Comment RECALL and I’ll send it to you.

“Our anxiety of letting her off leash has completely evaporated.”

That’s what reliable recall actually gives people — not just obedience, but peace of mind.

Off-leash freedom should feel calm, not stressful.

Most dogs don’t ignore recall because they’re stubborn.

They ignore it because it was taught too fast, with too much distraction, and without enough clarity.

If your dog comes when called sometimes — but not when it matters — you’re not failing. The foundation just isn’t complete yet.

Honest question for dog owners 👇
Does your dog come when called?… or only when there’s nothing interesting happening?

I see so many dogs who “know recall” but can’t do it outside or around distractions — and it’s not because they’re stubborn.

If recall feels stressful or unreliable for you, comment RECALL and I’ll send you a free foundation workbook that shows what needs to be in place before off-leash training.

Most recall problems don’t start off leash — they start with missing foundations.

I created a free workbook to help dog owners understand what needs to be in place before off-leash recall training, so training feels clear instead of chaotic.

Off-leash recall doesn’t fail because dogs are stubborn — it fails when the foundation is unclear. This free workbook helps you understand what must be in place before off-leash training, so you stop guessing, repeating cues, and rushing progress.
