Livestock brokers selling horses in Canada must possess a valid provincial Livestock Dealer License and a surety bond.

Mandatory under federal humane transport laws for any commercial transport or movement for financial gain.
>>>Transfer of Care (TOC) Document
Required whenever a transporter drops off livestock at an auction market, assembly yard, or abattoir.

On February 18, 2026, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) confirmed 23 horses tested positive for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) at a premises in Clearwater County, Alberta.
These are additional cases at a previously affected site, highlighting an ongoing outbreak in the region.
