EVER WONDER WHAT A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A DOG DAYCARE OWNER & TRAINER LOOKS LIKE?

Let me tell you… it’s not all snuggles, puppy kisses and playtime! 😂 Although, let’s be honest, that’s definitely the best part! ❤️
Running 4 Paws K9 Resort and training dogs is a full-time lifestyle, and the day starts LONG before our daycare doors even open!
A TYPICAL DAY IN MY LIFE
5:00 AM – Up and at it!
5:15 AM – Let the dogs outside
5:30 AM – Breakfast for my own crew
While the dogs eat, it’s time to clean the boarding area
6:00 AM – Finally, a coffee! A very important part of the day!
6:45 AM – Get myself ready and prepare to open daycare
7:00 AM – 5:00 PM – Daycare madness! Supervision, structure, activities, care and plenty of happy dogs!
5:20 PM – Feed the dogs
5:30 PM – 7:30 PM – Evening training sessions and helping owners build better relationships with their dogs
8:30 PM – Bedtime… because that 5 AM alarm comes around FAST!

And just when you think the week is over… DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE WEEKENDS!

Weekends are often filled with private lessons, helping dog owners work through behavioural challenges, improve obedience, build reliable recall and create a stronger bond with their dogs.

And somewhere in between all of that, there’s cleaning, organizing, answering messages, updating clients, planning training sessions and making sure every dog in our care gets the attention they deserve.

It's long days, busy weekends and a whole lot of dedication, but I wouldn't trade the opportunity to work with dogs and help their owners for anything!

This isn't just a job. It's a lifestyle, a passion and a commitment to every dog that walks through our doors. 🐾

LET’S TALK ABOUT THE DOG INDUSTRY!

Right now, the online world is buzzing with people opening doggy daycares, training businesses, dog-walking services, in-home pet-sitting businesses and boarding facilities.

And honestly? I’m all for it!
We welcome new people who are passionate about dogs and want to build a career working with them.

BUT HERE’S THE THING… loving dogs and being qualified to care for them are two very different things.
Our dogs depend on us to make the right decisions for them, and choosing who cares for your four-legged family member is a BIG deal!

Before you book, ask questions:
What qualifications, certifications or professional training do they have?

Do they have experience handling different breeds, temperaments and behavioural challenges?

Where did they do their training? What methods do they use.

What safety procedures and emergency plans do they have in place?

Do they carry appropriate insurance? Police check pet first-aid

Will they ask questions about YOUR dog before accepting them?
Do they offer a trial session?

Can they provide references or reviews from existing clients?

Don't be afraid to ask questions, visit the facility or request to see how things operate. A responsible professional should welcome an informed pet parent!

At 4 Paws K9 Resort, we believe that working with dogs is about so much more than playing with them and giving them cuddles. It's about understanding their needs, recognizing their behaviour, managing risk and putting their well-being first.

Your dog can't choose who cares for them. That responsibility belongs to YOU.

TONIGHT IS ZEENA TIME!

When you have multiple dogs, it’s so important to make sure each one gets some one-on-one time. Every dog is different, and they all have their own things that make them happy.
For Zeena, one of those things is SCENT WORK!

Working dogs were bred to use their natural abilities, and giving them opportunities to do what comes naturally to them is so important. Scent work isn’t just fun — it gives them a chance to think, problem-solve, focus, and use those incredible noses they were born with.

Sometimes, the best quality time isn’t a long walk or a game of fetch. Sometimes it’s simply letting your dog be a dog and use the skills they were born with. We have not practiced in a while, but she knew the nose knows what to do.

Tonight, it’s just me and my girl Zeena, doing something she loves ❤️ 🐾
