𝐀𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐟𝐢𝐬𝐡 (𝐏𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐲𝐥𝐥𝐮𝐦 𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐞)
Meet one of the most elegant and iconic fish in the aquarium hobby, the Angelfish!
Quick Facts:
🔹 Scientific Name: Pterophyllum scalare
🔹 Origin: Amazon River Basin, South America
🔹 Size: Up to 6 inches body length; up to 8 inches tall with fins
🔹 Lifespan: 8–10 years with proper care
🔹 Temperament: Semi-aggressive, best kept in calm community setups
🔹 Water Conditions: 75–82°F | pH 6.5–7.5 | Soft to moderately hard water
Why We Love Them:
With their graceful, triangular bodies and flowing fins, angelfish bring a touch of the wild Amazon to your living room. They come in a wide variety of stunning color morphs, from silver and gold to marble, koi, and veil-tail varieties!
Tank Mates:
Peaceful fish like tetras, corydoras, and gouramis can be great companions, just avoid fin-nippers or fish small enough to be considered a snack!
Diet:
Omnivorous, they love high-quality flakes such as Xtreme Community Crave, pellets, and occasional treats like bloodworms or brine shrimp.
Breeding Notes:
Angelfish form monogamous pairs and lay eggs on flat surfaces. With a bit of patience and the right conditions, you may be lucky enough to witness parenting behavior in your tank!
Pro Tip:
Keep angelfish in taller tanks to accommodate their fin height, and maintain excellent water quality — they can be sensitive to poor conditions.
