We will be ripping up this area to install drainage and a space for riding this summer. Why not have the horses graze and rip up the grass while the ground is still too soft for the good pasture! And now I don't have to worry about mowing over this uneven ground - win/win! 😆

We had one really rainy/snowy day (early in the year, I might add!) And we were stuck with a sloppy, muddy mess by the gate and hay feeder. Time to scrape back the mud and start a nice rock base to let the horses get out of the muck while trying to eat.

In the spring, we will be building a separate hay storage in this field to make winter feeding much easier, as well as an attached shelter for the horses. This is why we didn't continue scraping and adding stone to the left side, because it will all be dug up in a few months. Hopefully we are able to get through the winter without having to add more rock! 🤞

So much work getting this place ready for the horses! So far we've accomplished the following:

✅️ Fenced in pasture and attached "sacrifice" field
✅️ Ran hydro and water lines to the barn AND pasture
✅️ New roof on barn
✅️ Installed hydrants and Drinking Post
✅️ Barn is partway insulated, lights and electrical hung and ready!
✅️ Rubber mats laid, caulked the seams in an effort to keep shavings from getting wedged between and lifting mats up 🤞
✅️ Large, operable windows with bars installed
✅️ XL custom 12x14 stalls in!

And SO much left to do! 🤠
