Looks pretty, but it’s super dangerous. Let’s talk quickly about the w**d known as Fox Tail.

Early in the season it’s not dangerous because the grass is still attached and doesn’t just come off. But in a few weeks it’ll be “fluffy” looking and will come apart in the wind or on contact. The seeds get caught in throats, or even in the dogs nose and often require vet care to remove! The seed part has a barb, and gets stuck so can’t just be coughed out. Signs of ingestion can be coughing or gagging.

It’s best to avoid areas where it’s growing- but you could do everyone a favor and pull it up (by the root!) if you see it in a public space! The other day I pulled a ton by the college because I enjoy walking my dogs there and didn’t want to worry about it in a few weeks!
