🖤 Windy City Rescue
🐱 Last Chance Cat Ranch

Meanwhile, Coaldale Pet Clinic is collecting for:
🐾 Coaldale & Regional PAWS Pantry

🎉Two more of our assistants to celebrate!

💙 Meet Shania. You can usually find Shania making sure everything behind the scenes is running smoothly—whether she’s in the pharmacy checking medications, organizing/ decluttering/ restocking the entire clinic, or texting clients to follow up on their pets. Her attention to detail keeps our days running seamlessly! Shania has a huge heart for the tiny ones—she’s often the “mama” to kittens and puppies who need frequent feedings, which is fitting because she’s welcoming her first baby in just a few weeks! 💕🐾

💙 Meet Shaun. If something is broken, Shaun can fix it. If he hasn’t done it before, he’ll figure it out. Surgery table, washing machine, autoclave—you name it, he can take it apart and rebuild it. We’re incredibly grateful for his hard work and resourcefulness. Shaun meets even the spiciest cats with a friendly “hello friend.” He cares deeply for every pet he meets and is a proud cat dad to three rescue cats who are more spoiled than most children. According to Shaun: “N + 1 = the ideal number of cats… where N is however many you already have.” 😸

We've been covering a few costs to help make premium spay and neuter procedures more accessible for pet owners! 📆 There's still time to book!

A premium spay and neuter include pre anesthetic blood work and microchipping: 2 services that can make all the difference for your pet's health and safety.

💉We strongly believe in the importance of pre-anesthetic blood work — it helps us catch hidden concerns early and provides a valuable baseline for your pet’s health going forward.

🔎A microchip links your information to your pet for life. It's one of the best ways to ensure if your pet gets out or lost, they have a chance of being returned home safely to you.

Also included:
Pre-surgical consult with the veterinarian 👩‍⚕️
IV catheter & fluids
Full anesthetic monitoring with an RVT — ECG, blood pressure, capnography & oxygen 🩺
Pain management (in-clinic + to go home) 💊
Recovery cone
Complimentary “Feel Better” gift bag for your pet 🥰

We had so much fun celebrating our technicians last month, we wanted to introduce you to our assistant team this month! 🎉

Our assistant's do it all: they hold every animal from puppy vaccines to tricky IV placements. They clean, sterilize, stock and organize the entire clinic, make sure each pet gets fed and walked, get pulled away to assist with x-rays and then head right back to clean the surgery unit. They keep everything running smoothly and we could not do it without them! 💙

💙Meet Zoe. She is our head assistant at Family Pet. If you’ve met her, you know she has a heart of gold. She cares deeply for every team member and every pet that walks through our doors. Zoe is always eager to learn more and is currently working through the RVT program. Her passion and technical skill shine through in everything she does, she is always willing to jump in wherever needed, and we’re so lucky to have her on our team!

💙Meet Shay. She has been part of the Family Pet team for 3 years and is also working toward her RVT! She’s currently mastering IV catheter placement and blood draws. Shay's vibrant personality is a staple in our clinic. Shay has a soft spot for every single pet- even though she has 5 cats, 3 dogs, and 1 snake at home, that doesn't stop her from wanting to take home every animal here, as well!

Meet Doug, who came into the clinic after feeling a little too mellow on Halloween night 👻
After a few tests, we discovered he’d gotten into something he shouldn’t have — THC (cannabis).

While Doug’s story has a happy ending (after monitoring, medication, and lots of warmth and care; Dad reports he's feeling much better ❤️), it’s a good reminder that cannabis and pets don’t mix. Even small amounts can cause:
🚨 Lethargy or altered mentation
🚨 Urinary Incontinence
🚨 Low body temperature
🚨 Vomiting
🚨Loss of coordination

If you suspect your pet has gotten into cannabis — call your veterinarian right away.

✨🏆 FPH Bravery Award 🏆✨
This month, our Bravery Award goes to… 🥁🥁🥁
🖤Hannibal🖤

Hannibal had been such a good boy at all his recent vet visits for stubborn skin issues, that he thought might treat himself: to an extra-large regular coffee and an extra-large iced cappuccino while his mom was at work 😳 That’s a serious caffeine dose for a pup — and xylitol, which is toxic to dogs.

When Hannibal arrived, he had already vomited several times. We ran blood work and glucose checks, and started him on IV fluids with dextrose (a type of sugar) to keep his blood sugar stable and his body supported.

Xylitol can cause a dog's blood sugar to drop dangerously low, so we monitored him closely around the clock, offered small meals (not a fan of the "small" part) and ran regular glucose and liver enzyme checks.

At first, Hannibal’s glucose held steady, but then his blood sugar would drop again — so we kept him in the hospital for another night on dextrose fluids to make sure he stayed safe.

The next day, he was doing great: eating well, feeling good, and keeping his blood sugar steady as we weaned him down. There is no evidence of liver damage, and Hannibal was back to his happy, tail-wagging self after two long days of care, cuddles, and caffeine detox.☕

And while he might look tough, Hannibal thinks he's a cat; climbing onto the exam tables and curling right in your lap 🖤 We love you, buddy

Last week of meeting our incredible technician's 💛

Meet Amber. She is a senior tech here at Family Pet. She’s a great teacher—both on the floor and during technician trainings. Her patience and dedication to quality care ensure we’re always brushed up on the technical skills needed to provide gold-standard care. Amber truly loves what she does! Her laugh can often be heard anywhere in the clinic—usually followed by a burst of Broadway tunes 🎶

Meet Lauren.
Lauren’s laid-back approach makes her a perfect fit for our busy overnight shifts. She doesn’t ruffle easily—even after a busy night in the hospital, she’s rounding the morning group saying the night was “pretty chill.” 😎 She’s never met a cat she doesn’t like, and when she’s not in the clinic, you can find her relaxing with her dog, new puppy, cat, and boyfriend.
