Honestly, I had a very funny laugh about it this morning. I take this very seriously because of things that have happened in the past and I refuse to let people walk all over me or my dogs. Boundaries and expectations are there for a reason and any responsible breeder understands that. Contracts are not “gag orders.” They are there to protect the breeder, the buyer and most importantly the DOGS. They outline expectations, health guarantees, care standards, return policies and accountability for both sides. You will see contracts with reputable CKC breeders, preservation breeders, working dog breeders and ethical programs across the board. This is NORMAL in the dog world when someone truly cares about what happens to the dogs they produce. To be completely honest, if a breeder has zero contract, zero expectations and zero protections in place, that tells me they likely are not taking their program, their lines, or the lifelong wellbeing of their dogs very seriously. Ethical breeding is more than cute puppy photos. It’s responsibility, structure, transparency and accountability long after the puppies leave.

Thank you 🙏🏽 everyone for sharing your experiences. It honestly makes me feel a lot better hearing that so many of you have had ultrasounds underestimate litter size. Since this happened with Zuul’s last litter as well. I’m trying not to read too much into the count and just be grateful that the pregnancy was confirmed. I really appreciate all the reassurance and breeder experiences…it definitely helps calm my nerves while I wait for the X-ray.

Ultrasound today showed what may be a singleton puppy for Zuul. 🩵 We’ll have a much clearer idea at her X-ray around June 18. Last litter ultrasound suggested only 2 puppies…and 4 showed up on X-ray. I’ll also never forget hearing about a Belgian Malinois that supposedly showed 1 on ultrasound and ended up having 8. 😅 I never want to disappoint anyone, which is why transparency has always been number one for me throughout this journey. No matter the outcome, I’m honestly just grateful and lucky to be able to experience this with my dogs. 🐾

Zuul has officially entered her sleepy girl era 😂💙 Lots more naps, lots more lounging and definitely a little more “mom mode” already. She’s heading in for her pregnancy confirmation ultrasound on May 26 and we are SO excited to hopefully see the little beans on screen 🥹 She’s definitely starting to show some changes already, especially for such an athletic girl, so we can’t wait to see what’s cooking in there 👀🐾

Just for peace of mind I had Zuul tested for the DVL2 screw tail mutation through Orivet and she came back CLEAR/NEGATIVE. 💙 Embark also tests for a different tail-related mutation which she has already been screened for as well. Sometimes tail anomalies can still occasionally happen in heelers even without a known mutation present. Genetics are not always black and white…some things are believed to be polygenic/multifactorial. While other cases can simply be developmental anomalies or injury related. I wanted to share this for transparency and because I think continuing to learn and test where we can is important.

A little litter update since I’ve been getting quite a few messages lately 🐾 If everything continues smoothly Zuul’s puppies are expected around June 21–24 and will be ready to head to their new homes around August 16–19 at 8 weeks old. This pairing means a lot to me and I’m really excited to see what these babies will be like. Both parents are health tested for breed relevant diseases and the puppies will go home ASDR registered, with their first set of boosters, a GenSol genetic test, a written contract, and lifetime breeder support from me. I put a lot of care into raising and matching my puppies and I’m so excited for the next couple months ❤️🐾
